Didn't see this posted anywhere.

Faced with consistent seven-figure deficits in its golf operations, East Baton Rouge Parish Recreation and Park Commission officials have launched a comprehensive review of the parish’s seven publicly funded golf courses, BREC Superintendent Carolyn McKnight said.

If they have to close two facilities, which two go?

I'd say Beaver Creek, Webb, and Santa Maria are untouchable.

Also start selling beer is a great idea, people are always going to bring beer on the course

I could be pulling this from thin air, but isn't it a law that BREC courses can't sell beer because they are City owned?

I've heard that too, but Santa Maria sells alcohol. Whats the exemption there? They are the only BREC course that does.

McKnight also said BREC would work with the city-parish to change ordinances that prohibit BREC from serving beer and wine at its courses

i understand this but people bring beer on all of these courses. Same with LSU, might as well accept that fact and make some money will you are at it.

Howell should have been shut down years ago. Beaver has got to be a huge money drain too. Dumas is 3rd.

Raise dues at SM and scare off the hacks please.

Beaver isn't for various reasons,
Santa Maria won't for obvious reasons,
Webb is just too centrally located.

Howell isn't even a course. Just 18 holes in the ground.

isnt it already $50?

Raise it any higher and you run the risk of being the next course on the chopping block

I think City Park is more untouchable then Webb. Its not the best course but it does make the neighborhood look good.

What time do hacks play at S.maria?

I thought they were all at Webb and LSU.

Webb has to have the most rounds played out of any BR area course except maybe LSU.

First would be a popular choice: Howell. It and that damn canal can go. Relative to the others, it's the least used and not that great of a course. Flat and straight. The only challenge is the canal.

My second choice is controversial, but I think it needs to be done: Close City Park. They caved in to a few vocal voices when they redid the park and kept the course.
