Got this from one of the guys I hunt with, I am going with 3.5 yrs old. Hopefully he makes it thru the season. The mass on his bases is nice.

That's a beautiful buck. He's definitely got great potential if he adds some beam length.

Damn straight it is. I'd rather let a monster pop up on me from out of nowhere than get a shite ton of pics of him at night. I'm so fed up with Moultrie camera right now. I bought the PlotWatcher Pro, and I really like it. It only takes daytime pictures, but until I get a time lapsed camera that has night vision and doesn't cause me to go broke, I'm just going to have to be okay with it.

We have pretty much switched to Primos on my place. We have 35's / 46's / and a 60. All take really good pics, do very well on the battery life. And we have two 35's that have just started there 3rd season in the field.

But I do like the M-80 from Moultrie its a nice camera as well.

+1. I have 3 46s (found them on sale at a top secret Wallmarks this summer for $69) and they take great pictures day and night.

Does anyone have the newer ones with the blackout feature? Do the deer seem more calm in night time pictures? I'm considering getting a couple, as I think the red light spooks deer a little at night.

I agree, he looks great, but another year would make him even better. The lease I am on has a $500 fine for any buck 3yo or younger. The fine kind of sucks, but it has to be that way since the last two years we have shot too many large, young bucks. That should make everyone lay off the trigger this year. I do not expect many bucks to be shot this year. Next year should be even better.

Yes i have one with the blackout feature & it takes good pics but they have to be very close.
As far a he red light spooking the deer, That's bullshite. I've got on camera that takes 3 pics at a time & a few deer see it & get right up in the camera to see what it is

I've had deer come and investigate the light and I've also had them spook from it. I'm not sure if the flash from the old camera I have was doing that much damage after all.

I'm not saying all deer are spooked by it, but I have tons of pictures of deer in front of these cameras, and they get jumpy as hell at night. I've seen them spook before daylight when the damn light comes on. Look at these skittish arse deer.

Im slowly changing out all of my cams to black flash. there have been several studies done on camera avoidance and black flash cameras all but eliminate the tendency for mature deer to skirt the cameras trigger range. ive yet to have any animal pay much attention to my black flash cameras.

if you are interested in black flash id recommend the uway vh200B. Taking into account features, trigger speed, and cost, its the best bang for the buck of any black flash ive used. I don't have any samples in my photo bucket account to post, but the flash range is around 50ft.

These are taken with last years model Primos XCam blackout. It runs on D cell which I don't like, but its still running on the same set since the middle of July and has taken over 6000 pics. The deer are are somewhere between 20-25 ft from the camera.

A couple of things about black flash cams

You absolutely need to use 3 or 5 shot photo burst because they are more prone to nighttime motion blur. When I've used mine on burst I have at least 1 good picture 99% of the time.

If you like to use the video feature you really need to use lithium batteries. Alkaline a aren't powerful enough for videos longer than 10 seconds using black flash.

When I have mine set on pictures the deer are aware, but not necessarily spooked. If you set your camera over bait they will usually hang around, but red flash will cause mature deer, especially bucks, to quit using a trail. Set up over scrapes on video mode red flash will absolutely spook deer. I set my red flash cams around 6 feet high, angled down, and still have them spook when the camera is in video mode.

Looking at the time stamp, you posted the 2 pics of the buck backwards.

He was walking by in the first pic (second posted), and you can tell he just heard it take the pic in the second (First posted) one.
