I thought the new rules don't allow teams to count back now?

Backcounting is allowed, although I'm not sure exactly how it is done with respect to the 85. The new rules are forward looking, not backward looking. Before you could sign whatever number you wanted as long as no more than 25 (assuming you could handle 25) entered in the fall. This meant that you could wait to finalize things like greyshirts. If you signed 26 and someone failed to qualify, the 26th guy could get a ship.

Since you can't sign more than 25 (excluding backcounters), you have to make that decision on signing day. So if you have 26 guys (25 + 1 greyshirt), that decision is final even if one of your 25 fail to qualify.

I hope we take him. Potential for running back to get thin fast with injuries and early departures. He is a stud. Obviously his knee is healed. Saw some highlights on tv of him. He is real deal. With the 3 no qualifiers from last year any possibility of counting back? I think LSU finds a way to fit him in

this is very odd. why greyshirt a guy into the 2014 class that is absolutely loaded. that would take one spot from 2014. I could see the staff saying you might have to greyshirt but if someone doesn't qualify or decommits late in the process then you a the first guy to get on board. we were expecting to take 2 RBs in 2014 (LF and a change of pace guy). now, taylor would be three.

All I know is Taylor is LSU quality and he comes from a top quality program in Katy.

Maybe Les doesn't want to deter Fournette.

Then maybe Fournette is someone who needs to change their attitude.

Backs go down all the time, we can't stop our program just to get one guy. DOes Fournette really think there would be no comp at Bama?

Would Fournette really be happy if he got hurt and the team suffered because a guy like Taylor wasn't offered?

maybe its les that doesn't want to deter LF. its not LF telling les he wants to be in a smaller rb class. our biggest comp. for LF is bama and they are taking 3 rb this year and at least 2 instate guys next year. we should be able to take taylor and LF +1 next year. taylor is very good but not really a threat to LF in terms of playing time.

Agree with every word Hollins. I think our putting the position on hold for Fournette is the staff's way of having an advantage. I don't think Fournette has said to the staff "recruit only me or else". He obviously doesn't concern himself with the depth too much considering Bama is the main competition.

Or maybe it's that LF is so good and we are so confident that Les wants to use his scholarships on other positions.

that would be a bad decision. we need several rbs. I think its a poor judgment call to take 1 in 2012, none in 2013 and 2 in 2014. rbs get injured too often and just get physically abused in a league like sec. we really should take one this year.
