In second half a flag against LSU . Auburn player stands next to official with his helmet off. Isn't that a penalty?

Supposed to come out of the game for a play for sure.

The player doesn't have to leave the game if the helmet comes off as a direct result of a foul by an opponent.

I don't remember that exact play from the game, but since you said it was after an LSU penalty, that's probably why.

I think OP is wondering if the Auburn player took his helmet off by himself.

I thought of that I don't know I'll look for it on cox replay Wednesday night. I was hollering in stands for flag cause they marched us back deep. Nobody listened!

Not a foul, but supposed to leave the field for one play.

But I don't think the helmet was knocked off. I can't be sure but looked to me that he took it off. Isn't that a penalty?

Terrance Cody blocking the Tenn field goal and ripping his helmet off while time expires still bothers me even if it was the 'right' call. That was complete bullcrap.

I saw that, the player took it off. But I thought it was after the missed FG. In the end it did not change the outcome of the game.

On the Cody thing, would that have been a dead ball/after possession changed penalty anyway, or am I thinking about that wrong?

Thing is he was standing inches form the Refs. I'm hollering throw the flag. Someone says no foul after a dead ball. I call BS then why don't they ALL take their Helmets off right now. Guy shuts up.

Specifically prohibited acts and conduct include:

Removal of a player’s helmet before he is in the team area (Exceptions: Team, media or injury timeouts; equipment adjustment; through play; between periods; and during a measurement for a first down).

The reason they don't all take them off is because they are continually told during practice to never remove your helmet until you're off the field. It's just a precautionary thing they do to avoid potential mistakes by players.

That doesn't say it's ok during a penalty discussion

Ritter ... Auburn ... not going to get called. Unless of course, it's an LSU player.

well, that rule makes no sense. i thought it was a safety issue. is it any more safe to have no helmet if a penalty made it come off?

This happened during the LSU punt to Auburn in which the ball "looked" like it hit the Auburn player. The discussion started and they decided to review the play (it wasn't a penalty discussion), at which time the game took a media timeout. When ESPN returns from the commercials, the discussion is still going on...however the player obviously removed the helmet during the time at commercial.

Go to the link below and look at the 9:20 mark. The player, #22 Bell, had his helmet on as they left for the commercial. Once a game leaves to the commercial it becomes a media timeout (doesn't matter that the refs started the timeout for other reasons. If the refs finished their business prior to coming back from the commercial, the media timeout would have held the game.) When they return is when you'll see him (Bell) near the official (lower right box), at which time this had become a media timeout because of the commercial, thus no penalty.

No penalty for helmet off

Also, since you were at the game, you may not have known it went to a commercial because of the length of the discussion and instant-replay review.

Oh, and you said there was a penalty? So, it may have been the same situation at another time, where the long discussion/review went to a commercial without you knowing. shite, I don't know....just trying to help.
