Need some recommendations maybe a little outside the box on a nice reasonably priced dinner (less than $100 PP). I enjoy fine dining and occasionally say what the hell, let me see what this chef/restaurant have got. I've done tasting menus at the Windsor and August (phenomenal), but want to try something new.

Coquette has my eye.

Well, Le Meritage isn't a tasting menu per se, but all of their courses are paired with a wine. In fact it is specifically set up as a wine pairing menu, and you can get a small or large pour, to go along with a plate that is either a small or large portion.

If you're not looking for like 5 courses each, you can get out of their for a "decent" price (still borderline on that 100$ per person though.

Commander's and Cafe Giovanni are two of my favorites.

Coquette has really been killing it lately. Food has been fantastic. I'm not a huge fan of their wine selection though. Definitely worth checking out if you've never been.

Completely agree. I love this place. Go to lunch for the 3 course 20 dollar lunch at least once a month.

Did not know they had a tasting menu though. Just never noticed it.

How is the lunch crowd generally dressed at Couquette?

I love a tasting menu but I've gotten away from the wine pairings. It seems the majority (not all) want to pair with something I don't care for and I always get the feeling they are just trying to unload what they want to get rid of.

I know my palette and would prefer to pick my own. I definitely listen to suggestions but normally I'm dining in these occasions with some pretty good wine people, both men and women and just mostly prefer the groups picks.

Now if in Napa that is when you really can start to trust a bit more because many people know wine and are more of enthusiasts than just doing it for a job.

Coquette is business casual I guess. But I see people there in shorts and tshirts.

I've had their tasting menu once. It was alright. Again, I don't care for their wine list all that much. Plus I'm not big on dessert so I feel like with a tasting menu I'm paying for something I don't really want. Usually go with 2 apps and a main at Coquette. Need to check them out again soon. Been about 2 months since I popped in.

I think Le Meritage is definitely perfect for what you are looking for. I have dined there about a dozen times in the last couple of years, the food is great, and you have several selections with each plate that would match perfectly, with your palate and their food.

You should be able to get out of there for 100 bones pp.

I just ate at Coquette this past saturday and it was very good. I agree that there wine list could be improved. While their food is excellent, their menu is rather limited and could use a few more choices.

That's another problem with wine pairings if you are trying to fit a price point. I'd prefer the tasting menu and order a bottle of something I know I'll enjoy.
