Mett seemed very uncomfotable on play action and throwing on the run.

I thought the play action would be an integral part of our offense with our strong running game and I kept thinking why are we not using it. I think we found out? Comments welcome.

We were rolling Mett because our offensive line couldn't keep the pass rush at bay.

More play action, especially on first down, would most certainly be welcome.

I dont recall him looking bad on play action. He has completed passes before after scrambling from the pocket so I think he'll be ok.

Mett actually does PA pretty well....not stellar, but good enough to make plays.

TBH Mett looks uncomfortable running period, so it would stand to reason he isn't very comfortable to throw off the run. TBH, he shouldn't be running out of the pocket that much, our OL was just getting beat and we had to or he would've been sacked a few more times.

Play action requires good pass protection. Without it, its very tough to make an accurate read and throw.

The qb doesn't get his eyes downfield and on the coverage until after the fake handoff is complete = more time needed to make a throw.

In terms of Mett throwing on the move, he HAS to square his shoulders before slinging it. He has all the arm strength in the world, but bad mechanics will negate that arm 9 times out of 10. I dont remember what drive he did this on. But one rollout, he squares himself and make a great throw on the move. Next try, he throws with bad body position and short-hops the pass.

His mistakes seem very correctable. He'll be fine

tough to do a decent play action when the tackels are getting blown up or by

it takes just an extra second of the QB holding the ball, but that slightly longer hold gives those defensive ends a chance to get in the backfield more. Not to mention they fact they can blitz the hell out of us on running downs where we might call a play action because we will only have 2 guys running pass routes

I'm not saying that every first down play should be either a run or PA, because then run blitzes should cancel that out.

However, with our offense, it should be easier to sell PA on first down (and even better, second and short) - PA should be our default mode on quick slants and outs, at least on first and second downs, and maybe all flat-to-5 yard primary routes.

I think Metts accuracy is excellent. His feet are slow like Booty. He takes a little too long to make a decision especially with our O Line. Overall I think it gets fixed in time

He doesn't have any time especially on longer routes

It was awfully close to being a pick six on that throwback to Ware

but Metts decision making and strong arm kept it from being one. Your comment isn't a slight against Mett its a positive in his favor.

He can only get better if the OL gives him some protection.

it's hard to look comfortable in play action when as soon as you come out of the fake a Defensive End is staring you in the face.

U can't move him out. Gonna have to block better on the interior and have him step up in the pocket. Would like to see some delayed screens and some passes to the rb's to pull those db's off the line of scrimmage.
