I need suggestions for a new playlist. I'm looking for great sad/blues classic country. Lots of great sad songs out there, but what are some that rip your heart out and you can almost hear the pain in the singers voice. Here's a few I have so far. Looking for others similar.

Old Violin- Johnny Paycheck
If You're Gonna Do Me Wrong- Vern Gosdin
Long Black Veil- Lefty Frizzell
It Was Almost Like A Song- Ronnie Milsap

Looking for more obscure songs I haven't heard a thousand times.

Son Volt - Trace. Great album and pretty consistently depressing lyrics. Alt-country rather than classic country but you say you are looking for something new.

Tear Stained Eye

Edited to add:

Windfall

Also - if you want to try new stuff the Cowboy Junkies may fit the bill.

It's not quite classic country, but Jamey Johnson has plenty of songs that reflect that sad/blues feeling. Just a few that I particularly like..

Who wrote that song? It's on the Carney album by CCR. I like Boland's version better.

He wrote it. On the live version he says it's the first song he had anyone else record. I like CCR but Boland's version is much better. It sounds like they just sang it, but actually lived it.
