just some food for thought facts-

Dallas 1993
0-2, 26-48 combined score, one loss to 4-12 Wash
ended up 12-4
defeated Buffalo in SB who was one of those first two losses in the regular season

New England 2001
0-2, 20-33 combined score, one loss to 6-10 Cincy
ended up 11-5
defeated STL in SB as 14pt underdogs

Giants 2007
0-2, 48-80 combined score
ended up 10-6
As wildcard defeated 18-0 Pats as 13.5pt underdogs in SB

blues, we got some pretty bad fundamental issues going on. I'm all for optimism but all these teams did it with their head coach.

Anyone who thinks this Saints team will reach the Super Bowl is high.

agree cept dunno if they are really that bad. Legit issues but not beyond repair ones.

My questions of pure defensive talent is the most essential. Even with turnaround to a playoff run there could still be 3 or 4 completely new faces on defense next year.

Still time to hang on the Spags '07 NYG model of hope. 48-78, 0-2 first two games. Then reeled off 6 straight wins at a 152-79 clip.

KC has given up the same 75pts as NOLA and only scored 41 vs. Atl & Buff. If there ever was a ripe must-win this is it.

Let the team play a Nfl offense before you say this team is not a playoff team. Cause the first 2 weeks we were playing that college BS

Pretty much how I feel. The only saving grace is that I think the records of the playoff teams/division winners are going to be pretty low. Lot of evenly matched teams. I could definitely see us struggling early and coming on as one of the hotter teams later in the year though...but I don't think this is getting fixed in a few weeks unfortunately.

Defense has given the offense a chance in the 4th quarter both games and they blew it both times. Guys, this defense was not built to shut down but rather bend but don't break. The offense has been letting us down with the turnovers and poor execution

Most definitely. I think there will be a pretty decent turnover. You can pretty much kiss Smith and Ellis goodbye.

I agree that it's not all the D's fault, but we're dead last in yards allowed...and second to last in points allowed.

agreed...and it falls back to talent. We have very limited wide receivers. Moore is a nice situational/complimentary player but he's not carrying a team. Morgan is another udfa playing like an udfa. Maybe with Payton pulling the strings we can form a cohesive unit but we're missing Meachem and Deverey badly. Had the same issue in 2010 before teams had to start adjusting to Graham and later Sproles. If teams take those guys away we have no choice but to try and dink and dunk which leads to stalled drives and Brees pressing. Couple that with subpar Oline play (again journeymen/average at 3 of 5 positions) and you get the current funk we are in.

0-2 doesn't look so bad if Atlanta loses tonight. Its really not that bad if Atlanta wins.

0-2 looks really bad when you play the type of defense the Saints have been playing over the last 2 games.

And those two "college offenses" that they played against....its just a read option. There are plenty of defenses that have been successful against it. That is no excuse. The D is obviously under performing and the OLine as been average.

I honestly think Colston is 100% and the injury bug hit at WR and the DBs. But, there is no excuse, coach or not, for being flat out beat and outplayed.

Willing to say the talent on this team is much superior than most of the 12% of 0-2 teams that have made the playoffs. No playoffs is certainly the statistical probability but at this point of the season there are only 3 NFC teams with better than 50% chance of making the playoffs. If the dirty birds fall to 1-1 the Saints at 1-2 playoff probabilities will substantially increase.

NFC Playoff probabilty chart

The 2010 Saints at 4-3 losing to Cleveland 17-30 & 20-30 to the Max Hall led Cardinals didn't look a lot brighter to me

I want to believe you...but I'm starting to wonder wonder whether or not our talent is really there or
whether Payton is just the perfect puppet master.

qb-Elite (top 3-4 in NFL no matter what way you slice it)

Rb- excellent scat back in sproles, very good runner in Pierre, 1 power back that hasn't gotten completely into groove, 1 power back that hasn't been activated

wr- 1 usually sure handed possession receiver albeit with limited speed, 1 udfa undersized slot receiver also usually sure handed, 1 injured aging speedstar, 1 undersized special teams ace, 1 speedster who has looked very bad running routes...also an udfa.

te-elite wr talent in graham, undersized guy who knows the system in thomas

tackles-2 system guys who would command modest paydays on the open market. 1 excellent guard in Evans who had a great year last year, subpar one the prior, and excellent year in 09. Another guard who was sought after in FA...came from a great power run blocking system in Baltimore, and a journeymen center who solidified the position after the pure dogshit that was Kreutz.

There is some talent there for sure, but in a vacuum its not like we've got a bunch of blue chippers...and that's our talented part of the team.

Regardless of what happens we're going to need 2 new WRs next year that can create a bit of seperation to add to the mix.

in Brady's 1st year he wasn't an elite QB. He was average

he had more turnovers than touchdowns, and his stats were skewed by a 4 td 0 int performance against the saints

qb rating in the 60's in 3 of his last 4 games
