I say frick the Middle East

I say pull out everyone. Soldiers, ambassadors, missionaries, peace Corp, whoever. Be DONE with them in every capacity. Let their neighboring countries deal with them. We can't win them over no matter how much our President tries.
I would be fine if we didn't report any news story dealing with any conflict over there.
Anyone else feel this way?

Why can't we just colonize like the good old days?

77% of the gas we use in the US comes from domestic sources.

And I agree 100% with the OP. If they all want to kill themselves over stupid shite and continue living like it's the dark ages, go ahead. I say keep some strategic bases near the middle east just in case, but for the most part, bring everyone home. Not just in the ME, but we're helping other countries pay for their defense:
35K US troops in Japan, 56K in Germany, 10K in Italy, and 9K in the UK. Bring them all home, focus on protecting our own border, and lay off those soldiers that we don't need (but with a very nice severance package, like continue paying their salary for a year or two, which they could use to help pay for school or use as supplemental income while working another job).

I don't want to be loved. I want to be feared. This knocking off one terrorist here or there isn't putting the fear into the crazies

If we're not careful we are going to have a major hostage situation on our hands ala Iran/Carter. Get the Marines to all USA official offices in the area and shoot the first mofo who shows up with a weapon

LINK

It's no pipe dream. The U.S. is already the world's fastest-growing oil and natural gas producer. Counting the output from Canada and Mexico, North America is "the new Middle East," Citigroup analysts declare in a recent report. The U.S. Energy Information Agency says U.S. oil imports will drop 20% by 2025. Oil giant BP projects the U.S. will get 94% of its energy domestically by 2030, up from 77% now, as oil imports fall by half. Energy billionaire T. Boone Pickens, a major investor in oil and natural-gas companies, said the U.S. can at least end oil imports from Organization of Petroleum Exporting Countries, about half its total, through new drilling and by shifting diesel-swilling trucks to natural gas. Any other oil needs should be from politically stable allies such as Canada, Pickens said.

This despite Obama's doing his best to fight it.

I honestly believe we are just draining everybody else of their oil supply so that when they need oil, good ole USA can sell it to them... for a price that is

re: I say frick the Middle East

It is a bit poorly worded in the article:

100% of total gas usage in the US
- 77% being domestic
=
23% imported

50% of our imported gas comes from OPEC nations = 11.5% of our total oil comes from the ME. I'd imagine the other 11.5% comes from the likes of South America and Russia.

HappyTownTiger--- I agree with you 100% and I am a patriotic Conservative, but, get out, get out now. Leave the ME. I know the arguments to stay, but, get out of Afganistan and Iraq 100%. Pull out of every country that attacked out Embassies and burned our flag. Stop ALL foreign aid Monday,no money,no aid. Don't rebuild burned Embassies, don't clean up, just leave ,get out. Start over. We get oil from Saudi Arabia, forget everyone else. Forget them. We can get oil from Canada, the pipeline, ANWAR Alaska, Texas, La.. We have natural gas out our ears and oil in Alaska. Get out,no foreign aid. We need to cut a trillion a year to save our country. this is a good start.

It's not just about us getting our oil though. Instability in the middle east will still affect oil prices even if we're getting our oil from elsewhere.
