we make in TS.
Who else beside me remembers when it was against the rules to cheer too loud and LSU could be penalized if we kept it up?

I remember this. There was actually a warning given by the referee and then penalty flags were thrown if the noise did not get softer. All it did was rile up the fans even more. I think the rule only lasted one season and it was not consistently enforced.

I remember this was a rule in the NFL for a while. I especially remember a game where the Bengals were playing the Saints in the Dome and Boomer Esieson (sp?) kept playing it up to get penalties on the Saints. Crowd would just get louder after the penalty.

That was still going on when Dinardo was at LSU.

Yeah, it was a stupid rule, rarely enforced in SEC games, but I can remember a few games when the players tried to quiet us down so they wouldn't get a penalty.

I seem to remember LSU being penalized for crowd noise against Ohio State in 1987. Seems like the team captains that day, maybe Andolsek for us and Spielmen for Ohio State had a little pregame shove during the coin toss that really pumped up the crowd.

Is that really pointed at me? Sorry, I don't get that much time to be online, but I don't recall starting a thread that I didn't follow up on.

I asked a question and now I'm reading the answers. How hard is that for you to understand?
Or do they do things differently on the movie/tv board?

Yeah. On the first play of the game, OSU QB Tom Tupa went under center and attempted to call cadence but could not hear himself yell. He motioned to the refs with his hands that he couldn't hear and pulled the O back into the huddle. That really lit the crowd up. The O lined up again and TS was still nuts, so he literally just stood over center for about a minute...guess the refs didn't pay attention to the play clock. He finally snapped the ball and OSU went 3 and out. LSU got the ball and quickly scored a TD. No penalties though

Yes sirree you are correct. When I was a tot (12) in '58 and '59 I remember it well. Don't remember penalties, but remember the warning given out by the refs. Happened on several occasions as I remember it.

True as fact.
