Greatest CFB team ever.....that wasn't undefeated

Saw the thread about the worst loss in LSU history and some of the comments made me think. A lot of you said that the 2011 LSU team had a chance to be the greatest of all time but the loss obviously killed that.
What is the greatest team of all time that lost a game?
2002 Canes

I'll throw you a bone...
I loved me some Steve Spurrier and Danny Weurffel.
1996 Florida Gators (1 loss national champion)

Yeah, didn't want to sound like a total homer but that team was pretty badass. Id still say the 2008 Gator team is the greatest in the history of our program. The way our defense locked down that high scoring OU team in the title game was amazing.

It's not that farfetched. We would have been one of the best, and they whooped our arse when it counted.

I think you could argue 2003 LSU.
1996 Florida is in there too.

I would say the 2003 LSU team was its hard for any Gator fan to give any respect to a team that lost to our Ron Zook led team. The LSU defense was insane that year though.

those wuerffel/spurrier squads were straight up filthy.

Don't know what you are talking about. That Canes team WAS undefeated.
They did beat Ohio State and those biased arse refs.

2001 Florida, sick, sick team

I own a sporting goods store and was talking to an OU customer the other day. He told me that its pretty common knowledge among OU/Big 12 fans that the 2008 title game was fixed. He claimed the refs were constantly moving the ball after plays to slow down their offense
He said because it was in the state of FL (miami) that we had an unfair advantage. Unbelievable.

I feel bad making a joke today over that season but UF fans used to blame Bin Laden for that year. We were supposed to play Tennessee that week and it got postponed. We played them after FSU that year and in the FSU game, Darnell Dockett was caught on film after the game trying to tear up our RBs knee (graham). He nearly broke his ankle and sidelined him for the UT game the following week. We had ZERO running game against the vols....and lost by 2. We would have gotten to play LSU in ATL for a chance at the Canes in the title game.
