Apparently it's not need-based. There were a lot of kids of doctors, lawyers, etc out there on the field last night. I don't fault them for taking the money if it's available, I just wonder if there are some players who have been less successful in their later career whose kids could use the help.

There were at least 2 band members on the field. Not sure how they're awarded as I couldn't hear .. we were in the north endzone rather than in our normal sez seats. Never knew that there wasn't a speaker in the NEZ.

It was set up for children of football lettermen. However, the NCAA has stepped in and said that it is an illegal recruiting advantage. It is therefore only available to children of lettermen who started at Lsu before 1986.

Not everything in life should be needs based. Some things should be based on academics, community involvement etc...

As much as society wants to help underprivileged kids we also want to reward high achievers and people who make a difference in their community.

There a lot of help available that is needs based.
