Best plan for post-storm generator service?

My generator has served me well through two hurricanes and the usual array of Southdowns power events, and now I'd like to pay it back with a good service plan.

Other than changing the oil -- as I have every 40 running hours without fail -- and tossing some Sta-Bil in the tank after the storm, are there any other suggestions?

If I really want to throw some $ at it, is there a best small-engine or generator shop here in Baton Rouge? (B&S 5.5KW)

Thanks, and thanks for all of the TD advice and entertainment during the storm.

Remove carb bowl, spray liberally with Marine Fogging oil, replace.
This solution will keep any gasoline residue from varnishing.

I've never changed the oil in mine, it's a miracle it still works. I'm thinking about changing it this weekend.

I've been cutting mine off every 40 hours and doing it. Takes like ten minutes tops.

Plan to winterize the carb this time.

Before next storm I'm getting a drum of 100LL for storms, good old ethanol free leaded gas, and it's cheaper than 93 octane used to run it in my old mustang.

I'm changing the oil for the first time this weekend. Bought during Gustav.

Its a freaking lawn mower engine. I change that oil once every 3-4 years and it works like a champ.

Yeah, but you don't run your lawn mower for days on end.
If you more the grass once a week that's 52 hours. In a year. A generator may run that long in less than three days. Changing the oil will keep the engine ruining longer for sure. You change the lawnmower once a year so the cycles are similar.
