Didn't even know they were playing and guessing it was mostly scrubs by this point. Still, good job JL!

ETA: Brandon Taylor tied for the lead in tackles with 6 (4 solos). Great work Brandon!

Gates said Lee is stepping up and is NFL ready
Weddle said that Taylor was the man and can't wait to watch his career

As much as I love hearing this, one angers me slightly for fairly obvious reasons. Hahaha.

It probably wasn't enough to make the team. They will keep him on their practice squad.

In that case it was impossible for anyone to prove on the field that you have a shot to make the team. What else could the kid have done to make the team?

What more could he have done to make the team?

That would would be considered "mission accomplished" in my opinion. Getting on the active roster would take the team giving up on Whitehurst who took a lot of sacks and statistically didn't look impressive. One pre-season game left.

"What more could he have done to make the team?"

He's an undrafted rookie that didn't get to play much in college, it takes time. It takes time for first round picks to show if they have anything and those picks weren't coached by Gary Crowton. If he makes the practice squad he should be tickled to death, spend another year learning and try to make the team next year.

You sure about that, Crowton no longer coaching and Lee is about to make a NFL team. Lee was a freshman at the time in a wacked out offense. Forget Alabama last year and Lee was the best Quarterback in the SEC until that game statistically. Think if he would have played in that offense his whole career.

don't they need 3 QB's? is there another 3rd stringer other than Lee? if he is he only 3rd stringer right now, why would he not make the team? maybe they plan to pick up a free agent later or something?

Making the practice squad exceeds what I expected. I honestly did not think he could accomplish that, so I'm happy for J-Lee.

But Clipboard Jesus was hurt the first game and put up some very good numbers the second game. Not sure what either did last night, though I did see someone post J-Lee was 5-12-81 last night.

I see he still bails and turns away after the throw when anyone gets near him. If he hasn't gotten past that at this point, it's unlikely he ever will and that will probably keep him from getting any further than he is now.

But I hope I'm wrong again and he exceeds anything I ever expected.

JL was 5-12-0 81 yds.
Whitehurst was 8-18-0 82 yds.

I think the SD OL was missing three starters so Rivers was held out. Makes sense - Whitehurst was sacked 5X and JL 1X.

Didn't verify this but another poster in another thread stated that JL was 2-8 at one point. If so, that means he finished 3-4 and loed SD on the game winning drive (FG).
