Is it realistic to believe 2012 D will be better than 2011?

I was looking back at stats for 2011 (not sure if post season is included), and remembering how great our defense really was last year. LSU scored 65 touchdowns to our opponent's 15. That's really special, and it's hard to believe we could have a better defense this year. I think with the loss of Brockers, Mo, and Taylor that it will take a while for the youth to find their groove. I think this defense has great potential, but there is a small letdown from last year.

*Note: I think the increase in production from Mett will outweigh the letdown on defense. Miami bound.

I think the stats will be better. Oregon and WV both scored mid 20s on us I believe. No way our OOS scores that combined this year.

No doubt. This year is going to be much better, for the simple reason that we have A quarterback.

nah. it was gonna be a stretch before Tyrann got the boot. now, I can't see it. should still be a really badass group though.

I would've said yes before our attrition at CB. Now, it really depends on that position. If they can come out and NOT play like freshman, it's reasonable to think this defense will be better. It's mostly the same defense with the potential of everyone getting better.

This.

The defense won't be as good, but neither will our competition. Not only did we face a tough OOC schedule last season, we faced two of the most prolific offenses in the country in Oregon and WVU. Statistically, that's gonna make a difference this season.

But if we had the same defense we had last season, against this season's schedule, we'd be better.

It's going to be a dominant group but maybe not at first.

the defense will be better. defense starts up front and monty, mingo, ang logan will all be better uplifting the entire defense. the lbs will be better. simon will be ALMOST as good as mo, add in a better Reid and a healthy loston and the dbs will be fine. the only real question is the quality of the depth at db. dline depth is fine, freshman lbs look great.

It all starts up front. Stats don't always tell the WHOLE story. Brockers was a beast, no doubt. Teams may focus on double teaming Logan, thereby opening up more opportunities for his replacement. I don't see anyone running on us. We stuff the run, force a lot of down/distance and let these young LB's/DB's go to work. Biggest question- can anyone approach what HB did in the roaming nickel slot? Hard to match, but, that's Chief's job and M.O.- putting athletes in open space to make plays. I believe he will. Secondary needs to stay healthy. Also, out offense will be more formidable, thereby opening bigger leads and allowing us to pin our ears back even more on D. We'll see what the doubters have to say when we're in Atlanta in early December.

easy first game, vis a vis Oregon.

the D is light a few DBs (not just TM7) , as we all know.

K. Hatcher is gone, so that is addition by subtraction of last year's worst D player.

Net stats will be about the same. team on the field, a bit less effective, but the SOS is less this year.

the thing that is going to help the D is that the O is going to move the ball vs the top teams.
D will not be on the field as much, which may be enough to offset playing freshmen DBs at TM7's position.

It will be hard to replicate all the takeaways TM7 gave us last year. However, if we can get as many sacks as we did last year (38), then it is possible that our defense could be better.

I think the pass rush will be better. Both Rasco and Mingo are far better pass rushers than Adams. Freak is a better pass rusher Brockers was, no idea what relation of snaps he's going to get. Pretty interested to see how Ego looks, last year he seemed to just stand up every play and look pretty useless.

Secondary obviously won't be as good. But there's no way to know the extent of how much coverage ability and playmaking ability we lost until we see how Eugene and the Jalens look.

Holy shite. Our d will ABSOLUTLEY be better. Before last year we lost Nevis, Shepard and Peterson. This year Logan, mingo, Simon, Reid, Ego are older, Now we have a really healthy Sam, Edwards, minter, freak, mingo, Loston, downs, rasco, macklin? Our D was young last year. Our lbers will be better and we have stud freshmen to take over Nickle and dime.

They will be brutal. Both our corners will be 6'2 and hit like trucks. Reid and Loston will bring the pain. And NOBODY is running on this D

Defensive Backfield is gonna take their learning lumps. In my opinion, no I don't think it is very realistic. Could the defense be as good as last years? Maybe.
