Ive been offered 400 acres to hunt for free this year. Most of it is planted pine. There are a few hard woods....a creek and a small pond. Ive never hunted planted pines. How would you set up to hunt it?

no pressure (so Im told)...land hasnt been hunted at all.

not sure of tree age, they are about 25 ft tall in one area and taller in another area.

ive found some tracks and droppings on a dirt road that crosses it. also found some trails through an open area in the pines. this grassy area is prob 80 ft long by 50 ft wide.

In planted pines, you can really only hunt by topography. Unless it is loaded with bedding areas, they will just be walking through to get to something else. They walk the easiest way they can see to get where they are going.

25ft tall pine trees can get pretty thick unless they are thinned or burned regularly. Otherwise, yaupon will grow so thick in there you can't see 50ft when on the ground.

You seem to know where the game trails are. Try a small strip food plot on that route to stop them or pull them in. If you hunt the road, just take a rifle. You are wasting your time unless there is a hole in a fence or some reason for them to cross in one particular spot

Go to Google Earth, look at the property around what you have to hunt. Check for fields, hardwoods, etc. Look at the big picture, see where the deer will feed, sleep, etc and then plan accordingly. Those deer will follow the edges...

Exactly this. If the adjacent properties are hardwoods the property lines are the key

ETA they're probably the key regardless. Just look at what's different and how it will make deer move
