Wonder if they can make a deal...

quote:

he Red Sox and Dodgers are closing in on a trade that would send Adrian Gonzalez, Carl Crawford, Josh Beckett and Nick Punto to Los Angeles, Gordon Edes of ESPNBoston.com reports (on Twitter). Hurdles remain, but the sides continue working toward a deal

quote:

If there was any doubt remaining that the Dodgers' new ownership group would drastically alter the franchise, it has now been officially eliminated. The Dodgers and Red Sox have completed a massive nine-player blockbuster trade that will send Josh Beckett, Adrian Gonzalez, Carl Crawford, and Nick Punto to Los Angeles for James Loney and four prospects, reports Michael Silverman of The Boston Herald. Dan Roche of WBZ appears to have first reported completion of the trade (on Twitter).

these fricks are so desperate. selling the farm and emptying out their pockets and they STILL can't avoid getting swept at home by the Giants.

Maybe in about 3 or 4 years they'll be as bad as the Astros are now. Dodgers with the #1 pick in 2017

Laugh all you want R2R. The Dodgers are right on your arse and that's with Loney at first. A-Gon would be a great fit with the Dodgers, and they would be a force to be reckoned with if they land him.

I can see this getting done...with the Dodgers moving a couple of prospects #Zack Lee and the Dodgers taking on a lot of that contract.

Yeah I'm sure a team with Matt Kemp and Clayton Kershaw will be as bad as the Astros.

yeah, they're putting together a good squad for this year. maybe the next couple years they'll be alright .. but no farm system and throwing tons of money at superstars doesn't mean they're going to consistently win World Series titles.

I saw a Boston beat writer tweet last night that the Red Sox absolutely will not trade him.

Sure, they'll win a WS once every 10 years .. and meanwhile everyone will hate them and show no respect for the way they manage their organization.

Great. More people that dislike the Dodgers the happier I am.

and fwiw, I think they probably do end up with AGonz. Red Sox are so fricking disfunctional .. they could use two top SP prospects and could free up 21 mil/year between now and 2018.

And that averages out to 10 WS Titles every 100 years. You know how many teams have 10 WS Titles in the last 100 years of baseball? Only the Yankees and Cardinals.

selling the farm

I don't know where you're getting this from. I think they moved maybe 2 (Eovaldi and Lindblom) of their top 10 prospects. Eovaldi is likely a #4 starter at best, Lindblom is a 25 year old reliever. They have a ton of pitching in the minors so it doesn't matter.

Giving Ethier that huge deal is the only stupid move I would say they have made. If you can get a bat like Gonzalez to put after Kemp, thats a great move.

I'm positive every team in the majors besides the Yankees and maybe the Red Sox would be ecstatic with that.

teams would love to operate the way Cashman has....

MLB Farm System Rankings: #12 New York Yankees
quote:

The Yankees system is interesting in that there is quite a bit of depth. Where they lack a little talent is on the pitching side, but they do have a good amount of mid to back of the rotation potential. Their position prospects have quite a bit of potential and talent though.

quote:

Yankees' Farm System Ranked No. 10 By ESPN's Keith Law

quote:

The flaw in the system is the lack of near-in talent, especially position players, who could either help the big club soon or provide more fodder for trades.

quote:

The Yankees became very strong down low in the farm system – the rest of the Charleston Riverdogs, Slade Heathcott, and others – while maintaining tremendous depth at Triple-A.

and Cashman has made a lot of small moves that have paid big dividends.... Chavez, Jones, Garcia, Ibanez, Martin, etc....

Big payroll helps but that is mainly tied up in Jeter, AROD, Tex, CC, Rivera, Cano, Granderson as they account for over 110 million

It's going to take a while for the Dodgers to recover from the McCourt years, but I like this move by L.A. probably nothing comes of it, but you never know. I just hope we don't gut our farm system to aquire Gonzalez.

I still think we'll make a serious run at Josh Hamilton in the off season.

Tim Kurkjian weighed in this morning with a very thought provoking "meh".

Seems unlikely.

If I had to guess, they are merely trying to gauge if the market matches their idea of his value.

Maybe see if they can put another $15 million arm in their rotation?

Oh so I was being a little too liberal with my numbers. Sweet.

Trade Lee and Webster for AGonz then sign Josh Hamilton to a huge contract in the offseason. You win World Series titles with offense.
