Since she was a student im ok with it. It seems arbitrary how much we care about certain people that die though. The fact that it was a mystery doesn't make it any more tragic than any other murder, but we treat it that way because its our nature.

This and because she was an attractive, eclectic white girl. Sorry to say but that fact is a huge part of this. If she wasn't unique or wasn't pretty or wasn't someone that the majority of LA felt they could identify with, the coverage and the intrigue would have been much different.

I would guess they probably ran it by the family first. And given who suggested it, there's probably a good chance teammates and staff knew her as a student.

If her family is okay with it I certainly don't see a problem with it. Teams have honored fallen student and staff before.

Exactly. Her story has been in the paper and on tv everyday for the last three months. It is very tragic but it is time to put it away. Doing this just keeps stretching the story out further than it needs to be.

What a weird thing to hate on. It is their community...let them.decide

not trying to hate, just pointing out the morbidness of it.
It would be one thing if it was for a player or a group of students( ala Va Tech). Its another thing for a single student who had no relation to the athletic dept at all.

But didn't it bring the community together in a great effort?

I kind of felt the same way also, until the Mickey Shunick group shared the link to the news (I wasn't sure if it was brought to their attention). So if it's fine with them, I'm ok with it.

This. Honoring a murdered student who brought the community together, almost killed the sick frick who killed her, and it has the blessing of the family seems like a good idea to me.

You have no idea what you're talking about. If you read the plea deal, there is an explanation about her struggle that night in which her actions basically took down a serial killer, losing her life in the process. If it's OK with the family, there should be no objection elsewhere.

Team members will wear a decal portraying a girl on her bicycle on their helmets throughout the season,

That's weird

exactly my point. Im not hating on the death of mickey Shunick at all. Just dont see the purpose in the football team wearing a sticker on their helmet. LSU didn't start wearing a roster full of names on their helmets when Derrick Todd Lee and Sean Vincent Gillis were carving up the women on BR.

I could totally understand honoring her memory at the 1st home game but a decal for the whole season in just extreme IMO.
