Shane Hammink has been playing in the Euro U18 championships for The Netherlands, that just ended.

Going to be a tough season. I hope that Coach Jones can have a strong recruiting class next year. If not I think we may be in a situation where it is going to take several long and slow years of progression.

I was definitely hoping to get another big guy on the roster. It will be interesting to see how we can do with a small lineup. And it will be interesting to see if we can stay out of foul trouble down low.

Additions are not out of the question. This article was just confirming that everyone else on the roster has or will report.

North Texas has a better roster than LSU this year
Amazing the lack of recruiting by Trent and not having someone in the pipeline because LSU was losing Hamilton and Turner either way - what were the LSU assistants getting paid for under Trent because they surely weren't out looking for players.

That's not really fair. I don't think anyone was expecting for us to lose Hamilton at the end of last season.

It's definitely good to see Coleman on campus. I was just hoping for a surprise big guy, which can still happen, but I guess I was just hoping he would be on campus already.

You just can't tell what a team will do before the season even starts. Shane Hammink, Malik Morgan, Corban Collins and Shavon Coleman may turn out to be great players who compensate for lack of big men with great teamwork, shooting and hustle. I hope for the best but support them no matter what.

im not to knowledgeable on sec basketball for this coming season...which sec teams have strong big men that could really hurt us?

Yes, this good news.
We will likely be seeing both Coleman and Hammink spend a little time as undersized fours.
Lots of 3 and 4 guard lineups.

My high school basketball team had one player over 6 ft my senior year.

Since JJ spent 10 Yrs. at UNT he's used to working with shortage of big men, or big's with less than SEC talent. JJ is expert at running smaller line up relying on guard's to compensate for lack of post players. I don't know enough about how talented LSU's guards are, but if they good, can run the floor and make good on the court decisions, then JJ will get every ounce of talent out of his players. LSU will be just fine. It may take a little time for y'all to make big run in March Madness, but it will happen.
Tony Benford the new UNT coach has brought some good recruits in, but that's only been possible because JJ was able to bring in a core group of recruits before Tony Benford arrived. Namely "Tony" all world "Mitchell" Mr. Mitchell will only be at UNT for this season, then it's "Hello...NBA". Thank goodness JJ was at UNT to bring in the best player our University will ever see grace our doorstep!! LSU fan's should make a trip to Denton this year because Tony Mitchell is truly amazing.

I don't think your assessment is entirely accurate. Much of the problem has to do with attrition: Derenbecker, Hamilton, Turner and Dotson all left prematurely for various reasons. Bring back three of those four and the team has a much different look.
With rare exception, I think a good barometer of the health of a program is the number of players entering their third and fourth seasons in the program. When the program is weak and players aren't buying in, they quit or transfer and you are constantly having to re-recruit the bulk of your roster. On the other hand, the stronger programs have little turnover and the elite strong programs have some turnover, but most of it is from early pro departures.
I say with rare exception...Kentucky is the obvious exception that stands out. But they are also losing players almost exclusively to the NBA. That kind of roster turnover makes it easy to replace them...your track record for turning high school studs into rich pros ensures you'll get more high school studs.

All of the newcomers now have numbers assigned to them. They did not as of yesterday. Even more evidence that all the new players are qualified, enrolled and ready to go.
