For the last several days I've heard some high praise for the Florida State defensive line (in terms of both depth and talent). This morning, David Pollack (of whom I am not a fan) made a statement about the Seminole defensive line being outright better than LSU's line, which leads me to ask the rant your thoughts.

Are they really that good? How does our line stack up against theirs?

It's tough to compare two DL's from two conferences without many common opponents. Therefore, I will always give the nod to the SEC regarding line play, especially defensive line play.

In other words, the ACC sucks so yeah, FSU will look good.

So where does their DL project in the NFL Draft?

1. Why am I supposed to care what Pollack thinks?
2. Even if he is right, why should I care?
3. What effect will his opinion have on LSU's D-Line play this year?

Yeah, they're good. IMO, not as strong as LSU. Last year, LSU gave up 2.74 yds/rush and 7 TDs. FSU slightly better at 2.35 yds/rush and 8 TDs. They're also marginally better with sacks per game, but just barely. Like other guys have already said though - FSU didn't do this against teams like Oregon, Alabama, Arkansas, Georgia and so on.

What affect will you talking about LSU football on a message board have on this year's play? No effect. It's a talking point. Something to debate and discuss until the season starts.

But that's probably not what a message board is for.

Florida is a common opponent. Anyway, the national media has no clue about the inner workings of teams. Look at the varies opinions of Mathieu. I heard a radio guy yesterday say that if TM played for Purdue instead of national champion contender LSU, he wouldn't have been considered for the Heisman. You could say the same thing about Mark Ingram or Colt McCoy. The heisman has become the best player on the best team or winning top ranked team. These talking heads have no clue what they are talking about.

We'll settle it on the field when our Dline lines up across from their Dline in Jan!

Our defense would eat E. J. Manuel alive.

Irrelevant to the question at hand, but okay.

It was in response to the comment about seeing them in January, so yes it was relevant.

No, it was not.

He was not being serious. Read his comment. He said we will find out when our D-line lines up across from their D-line in January. Obviously, that is impossible, which was his point. It is impossible to judge with certainty because two D-lines from different teams cannot be on the field at the same time.

But we can see the two lines in the same game, on the same field, on the same night. I understand the humor, but it's not out of the question that we'd play them in the title game. Naturally they would never literally line up across from each other, but it's like saying you're going to see two pitchers or quarterbacks face off. They don't necessarily play against one another either, but you get the comparison.
