How much would you pay for a duck blind that was self sustaining? Meaning that it never had to be brushed, floated, was eco-friendly(actually even helped the enviro), can be moved just about anywhere, etc....

What are your ideal aspects of a duck blind?

I have no ideal aspects, I hint wma's and hunker down in the marsh
Wish I had a permanent blind though.

Usually one day cutting roseaus, one day cutting cedias(sp?). My blind is on a lease so my foundation is already done. If I'm starting from scratch add one day of driving posts and putting up runners and one day of building a platform. Usually wont cost more than about 100 bucks in wood and 200 bucks in beer.

You built a blind on a wma? Ever have people in it when you pull up?

we haven't had a problem with that in a couple years (we're further out than most people) we hunt an area that you can't bring a motor into, we have to anchor then walk about 200 yards to the blind and we're usually there so early i can't see ppl beating us there

Sunk pit blind. Spend a couple hours making some piles of grass to cover us up real good. Repeat this a few times throughout the season as desired. Pretty easy stuff.

Just curious, we occasionally use one built by someone else in the Biloxi marsh, but we are really the only ones in the area. Although, it sticks up out of the marsh and doesn't look natural so we just hunker in the grass.

ours is the same way, looks like a hunk of grass (palmettos, wax myrtle, and willow branches) sticking up out of open water (the top is brushed also) it doesn't seem to matter, we still get limits most of the time

Takes about a full day to get it ready before the season. Then a couple hours a few times during the season to touch it up.

Have a lake blind. One hour of wasp cleansing. Another 30 minutes of wasp proofing(damn nook and crannies). One hour sweeping out, knocking down spider webs, dirt dobbers etc. Couple days of brushing, probably about 4 hours, we don't get in a hurry. Couple of days decoys, again not the most energetic bunch of hunters. Every year some sort of structural change. Some more than others. This year the blind cook (me) has put in a work order to enclose the kitchen and add a few counter tops and sink. Still waiting on the fire marshall and get the permit from the state for such an endeavour, at least that's what my co-horts have been telling me, so progress, if you can call it that, is not moving forward. Seems like everything is done in the last week before season so everything is good.

One that is on the X! Ours is a floater, it shoots 6-7, has a oven/stove out of a camper, and 2 propane heaters. My favorite blind of all is not one at all. Find them in the timber and just lean against a tree. Nothing better than big fat greenheads at 15-20 feet.

We have one built in a cypress tree. Don't have to brush it till the end of the 1st split.

Just got on a rice lease, excited to brush something different as well as hunt out of a pit blind.

I hunt a lot of public SE La marsh, so no blinds at all for me. Sometimes i'll stage some piles of cut roseau or other brush in different places to help me out if we sit on a pirogue but usually hunker in grass...low profile key.

That said, I love shooting from pit blinds on a rice levee. Fertilizer works well to boost the natural grass around it, then during season just cut stuff from elsewhere on the levee to help break it up and cover the holes between shooters

Wondered how long it would take. I currently work for an environmental company (coastal/marsh res. and water quality) that uses a product to make floating islands. The owners are all very avid hunters and have made personal blinds out of the product. They also make floating docks and bridges for golf courses and what not.

They sustain plant life (roseaus, or any other) year round, are moveable (they float), can be made to w/ stand any amount of weight (we even grow full size trees on them) and are green. Since it's used for waste water the product (blind) also cleans ammonia, etc out of water bodies.

Don't really have any marketing stragety as of now was just trying to get a general idea of what ppl spend on duck blinds.
