I've been duped...French Dip edition

Growing up in the thriving metropolis of Plaquemine, my favorite poboy was the french dip at Fat Daddy's. No matter what other city I went to, the au jus just never compared to what they were serving at Fat Daddy's.
Haven't had one for several years until tonight and I finally realized the hook! It's not au jus in the styrofoam container. It's french onion soup! I feel so betrayed, yet I still love it.

Personally, I think it's genius if a bit lazy. I never figured it out til tonight because they usually strain the onions out. Either they got lazy or just don't care anymore b/c tonight's dip was chock full of caramelized onions. It's still really freakin good.

There's a place here in Lake Charles that had it on the menu, it was really good but you had to have the Au Jus with it. Naturally, they took it off the menu.
I've gotten a few great ones from a deli called McAlister's. The au jus is really good.
