Which game? The "Game of the Century" Bama lost at home? The other regular season games we steamrolled teams? The SEC Championship we won while Bama watched on TV? Oh, oh, you must mean the undeserved Mulligan do-over game. Gotcha. You're right, we've got no reason to be confident...

And, is it really that surprising?

No.

Bingo!! Even if LSU was picked #1 preseason, Bama would have likely taken that spot after week one anyway were they to beat a top 10-15 Michigan. It would have been deserved, just as LSU deserved to start moving up after beating ranked teams last Sept.

LSU fans constantly look for examples of "disrespect" from the media, other teams, coaches, etc. The fact is though, LSU gets a TON of respect nationwide. This program is no longer "David", looking to shock the giant. The "no respect" card doesn't work anymore. LSU is a "Goliath" in CFB. Embrace it!

Seriously who cares. Preseason polls were dumb when we were #1, and they're even worse when they change it due a player, albeit, a great one.

I'm always surprised when football fans even look at pre-season top 25s. Anyone remember a few years ago when they had UGA at #1? They didn't even come close to finishing there.

2007

in 2007 5/10 of the top 10 teams remained in the top 10 at the end of the season.

2008

In 2008 4 teams remained in the top 10 at the end of the season

2009

In 2009 there were 5 remaining in the top 10

2010

In 2010 there were 5 remaining in the top 10

I think you get my point. If you just throw USC, Oklahoma, Ohio State, USC, Bama, Florida, LSU in as 7 of the preseason top 10 you will likely have 3-4 of those be correct come the end of the season. These rankings mean nothing today. I guess it is fun conversation for some, but none of those years that I posted above had the #1 preseason finish as #1.

I like us being at 3 rather than 1. We can take 1 from them when we meet me them in November. Takes a bit of the monkey off our back and we have still a little bit to climb.

The logic of the media:

Mathieu was very overrated and was exposed in the NCG..was a bad cover guy and would be picked on by decent quarterbacks..his return game can now be limited by directional punts, therefore he is now only a decent player....

But now that LSU has lost Mathieu due to violation of team rules, we will move them down 2 spots behind a young BAMA team and a USC team that has no depth whatsoever.

Yep, that's about right..

But I like us at 3 honestly...gives us something to fight for and prove everyone wrong like we always do.

The way see it is they are still National Champs until someone beats them.

This logic is up there with the terribleness of preseason polls in general. I guess Auburn should have started last year tops in the country.

I understand it. They lost some people, but the fact remains they are still national champs. Personally, I wish they would so away with preseason polls and wait until say week 4 to put anything out.

they lose to LSU, Arkansas, and one other clunker. possibly auburn or state

Michigan, Arkansas and LSU

USCw will be hurt by lack of depth. All their lb's and several key secondary are knicked up already in pre season two a days.

No - the 2011 team was national champs. The 2012 team hasn't played a game, yet. This is why pre-season polls are beyond silly. The first poll should be after everyone has played 3 games. There is no legitimate reason to carry over anything, beyond mere program fundamental strengths, and a couple of proven players from one season to the next - 20 to 25 percent of every team changes every year.

With another SEC team being 1 of the 2 ahead of us it doesn't really matter. I mean, we control our own destiny still, if we beat them they will drop below us; probably not far below because of the way this all works. But I mean, it isn't like two teams from the same conference would be in the national cham..... oh. that happened already didn't it?

how the frick are they gonna rank a team number one with that many players who left from a year ago. LSU wouldn't even be in the top 5 had they lost what bama lost. Unbelievable.

#1 it's SI

#2 we have Bama @ home and @ night

#3 Bama will be #1 when we play them after they beat an over rated Michigan team.

Maybe they are better, nobody has played a single down yet.
