The Lannisters weren't going to push their luck with Robert Baratheon any more than they had to. If it had been Stannis instead of Robert, he would have hanged him and all his bannermen for the sack of King's Landing.

By the way, Robb and Catelyn are murdered by the Freys this season.

Tyrion kills his father, too.

This seriously blew my fricking mind. I am on board with this til someone proves it wrong.

I think it has a high probability. Lot's of things starting to add up.

There has to be a Stark in WInterfell because the CotF are watching for the new Greenseer and he will be a Stark of Winterfell?

I always just took this as a saying relating to Stark loyalty and sense of duty. I think that may be stretching it a little far.

But I do agree the CotF through the Weirwoods are watching the North and have been for years.

I had the same exact thought last night after doing some reading about the CotF and greensight at the asoiaf wiki.

While I fully believe that Jon is the child of Rhaegar and Lyanna, I will acknowledge that there is a possibility that his parents could be other people. Benjen Stark is definitely not one of those possibilities. Benjen was the Stark that remained in Winterfell during Robert's rebellion. Lord Rickard and Brandon were both dead. Eddard and Benjen were the only two left. Brandon didn't have any kids (that we know of), and Ned had just stepped in for his brother and married Catelyn. There was no guarantee that he impregnated her on their wedding night, and certainly no guarantee that they would have a son. Benjen Stark was purposely left in Winterfell so that there would always be a Stark in Winterfell in case Ned died in combat. Seeing as how Ned came back north with Jon (to where Benjen was during the entire reballion), then it isn't possible that Benjen is Jon's father.

Anyone who says Benjen is Jon's daddy is dumb. Jon was born when Benjen was the "Stark in Winterfell" Besides he was on the wall for a while, he's probably gay.

Not that anything is wrong with that

Anyone think that Benjen knows the truth about Jon's parent's? I'm rereading GoT and found it strange that when Benjen was talking to Jon he referred to Ned as "my brother" instead of "your father"

I get the feeling that Benjen knows the truth. Howland Reed definitely knows the truth. But no one has seen Howland since he came back north after Robert's rebellion. And Ned is obviously dead, and Benjen is probably dead. Connington may know also.

could the Lannister's have killed Lyanna

No, there were no Lannisters present at the Tower of Joy when she died. The only possibilities for her death are: a member of the Kingsguard killed her before being cut down by Ned and Howland Reed, she died of some disease that finally took her right as Ned finished his fight with the Kingsguard, or she died in child berth right about the time Ned finished disposing the Kingsguard.

However she died, she lived just long enough for Ned to hear her final words (after killing the Kingsguard), "Promise me, Ned"

Ned also remembers her having blue roses in her hands. A blue rose is what Rheagar gave Lyanna when he named her the most beautiful girl at the tourny.

Just a guess but I'm thinking Lyanna died either of childbirth (though I'm not sure how the time line of Jon's birth plays out there) or of some type of disease.

The people with Ned wouldn't have wanted to kill her of course. And I'm not thinking the members of the King's guard would, though I guess that's a least a possiblity - maybe under orders sent by the mad king in case the tower was found/breached. Even then, I think they would have done it more quickly and decisively for several reasons.

He may have known of the pregnancy, but I doubt he knows of Jon Snow.

Man I hope I didn't just spoil my coworkers GoT. When did Aemon and Sam go on the ship and Aemon dies? Was I vividly remembering this and put it with show characters or did it happen in the show?

Nervous now. I hate spoilers.

Fairly certain that doesn't happen until late in the series. Well after book 2. You probably just spoiled something for your co-worker.

ETA: Yeah, that happens in Feast. Hasn't happened on the show yet, I don't believe.

Not even close to happening in the series. John, as LC of the NW sends Aemon and Sam along with Mance's son to Oldtown, to meet with the Maesters.

Not a big spoil though.

I just read this in that thread. About Howland.

quote:

I am really buying into the Jojen is Howland theory. I have always wondered why he has stayed away from Winterfell and Ned for all these years. What better reason to stay at Greywater Watch then looking like a 12 year old at the age of 50

Damn. He'll forget. I swear I remember it so vividly. I guess since I started the series and ended it during the show, I can put faces to characters and picture it like the show.
