Per ESPN:

quote:

New Orleans Saints owner Tom Benson spent Tuesday morning discussing his team's embattled offseason with NFL commissioner Roger Goodell in a meeting, according to league sources.

Benson wanted to address the manner in which his team has been treated for its role in an alleged bounty program, at a time when a Louisiana judge is waiting to rule on linebacker Jonathan Vilma's lawsuit against the league, the sources said.

What came out of the meeting is uncertain, but it now has wrapped up, one source confirmed.

The two sides had been working on planning this meeting for a while, and they attempted to get it done last week, before the two sides' busy schedules interfered.

NFL spokesman Greg Aiello declined to confirm the commissioner's meeting with Benson and added that Goodell meets and talks with owners all the time on a wide range of issues.

If Goodell knows what's best for him he'll figure out a way to make this right with Benson. Tom is one of the highest tenured and well-liked owners in the league and last time I checked, Goodell works for the the owners. If Ole Tom wants to, he can get the owners on his side and make Goodell's life a living hell.

You would have to think Benson hired Freeh to clear the team's name so there's really only one way a public report would go. It is definitely leverage against Goodell

The Freeh Report on Penn St was brutal.

We all want to believe that the pay for injury scheme never happened but we don't know for certain. I've got a lot of confidence in Freeh to document what really happened.

It's "lying sack of shite" by the way.

I've always been confused as to why Roger took draft picks away. If you saying that Benson had nothing to do with it then why the draft picks?

Which is exactly why it will be so exonerating for the Saints. There are only 2 reasons for Benson to hire Freeh. Either he believes this is all a sham or he doesn't trust his top people. If he didn't trust his top people he wouldn't have put them in charge of the Hornets, in fact he'd have used buying the Hornets as an opportunity to bring in new people in case he had to fire the old people. That means he must believe there is no pay for injury program to be found. Unless he's wrong about that, the Freeh Report should be positive.

Yeah, I don't think Louis Freeh is known for holding back.

It honestly makes me nervous.
And not JUST for bounty reasons.

If Benson was going to talke Rog to the woodshed or get the other owners on his side he would have done so a long time ago.

No, this has got to be about the NFL and its world class PR team and legal eagles getting a bit nervous about Vilma's lawsuit. What else has changed to bring about a meeting at this late date?

Willie Roaf is in the Hall of Fame with a Green Bay Packers Stadium in background... treating the saints like shite.

I'm not 100% sure, but I believe that the Hall of Fame is a separate entity from the NFL.

I would fap to this...

quote:

Benson: "Look Rog, the Freeh found nothing."

Goodell: "shite"

Benson: "Drop this shite or I go public"

Goodell: "shite"

This can only lead to good things IMO

Nothing's going to happen

Goodell has made it painfully obvious he isn't going to budge

One would think if this was gonna happen it would have taken place way before now.

Exactly...I think the Saints were to be a sacrificial lamb in wake of the impending class action lawsuits against the NFL. I think there may have been some kind of cash pool, but nothing that there's an overwhelming amount of evidence for. Goodell was supposed to slit the throat of the lamb, but he didn't cut it right and the lamb is still alive and now Benson probably wants Roger to bring that lamb to the vet and end the farce. Really wondered why you haven't heard much from Benson.

Freeh is also being called out for trying to cover up/avoiding the fact that the FBI was very negligent during the Sandusky scandal. I'm not saying the previous statement is true about Freeh I'm just saying it's out there and his creditability may be questioned if he comes out with a report favorable to us.
