Ok, I've been betting football for years with varying success. Win some, lose some, profit some years, lose early and quit gambling by mid-season other years. Last year was one of my best years ever and I'm very much looking forward to this year and hope to build on some of the things I learned last year. I've gambled long enough to know that with how well I did last year, I'm due for a losing season this year...

Anyway, I know there are several books out there written by professional gamblers and that give tips, stategies, etc, such as the book by Stanley Wong. That book looks interesting, but it was written in 2002 and I'd like something newer so it can incorporate things like online gambling. Anybody have any books they recommend?

Peej's Book of Dumbarsery

I wrote a book on sports betting a while back. Didn't get picked up by any publishers because none of their editors liked it. So I gave up on selling it, and I'm giving it away for free.

Here it is:

Following his advice did put me on some winners last year. I'll definitely be tuning into the weekly College Betting Threads again this year.

You laugh, but one of the biggest things I learned last year is that discipline is key, and don't bet too big. I pretty much bet an average of $20/game last year. Of course, when I saw a game I loved I jumped all over it and would bet more (especially 2nd half bets when I saw how the game was being played) but $20 was my average bet. Too many times in other years, I swung for the fences too early and would lose my 'nest egg'. As the year went on, and I withdrew my initial deposit times 3 and I was playing with house money, I started betting bigger and lucky for me alot of those bigger bets worked out.

Big sports better, may join in yalls threads this year. I bet a little more than that...and usually with little to no research and have killed it the last 2 years (thanks in large part to LSU/LSU over/Texans covering most games). Collecting $2,760 this week thanks to the Texans

I've really learned to focus in on some statistical prop bets on football. (I understand football far better than any other sport)

There often seems to be a prop offered that is very vulnerable IMO.

For example, the Saints-49ers playoff game, NO was averaging 9 first downs a game more than SF, but the prop was NO -1.5 first downs. (NO was actually #1 in the league in 1st's, SF was either 2nd to last or dead last)

In a game that was incredibly wild and probably drove most bettors crazy, guess how the first downs turned out.........exactly the average-Saints had 9 more than SF.

Good stuff, Bengal. Post some of your plays this year.

To the OP, double digit home underdogs are a winning trend.

I always try to find an undervalued team at the beginning of the year and play them big until Vegas/public money has them valued properly.

A bookie told me the best way to exploit college football is to study a shitty conference for a few years. Know everything there is to know about the players and coaches of each team. He claims those lines can be weak at times.

I agree. In the second half of the season, 5Dimes had a prob bet with Jimmy Graham over/under 5 receptions a game. I took that almost every week after week 8 and think I won all but twice.

How the hell did you win this much this week on the Texans? There is no fricking way you bet that much on the first preseason game. I least I hope not.
