In the left hand column of an article on West Monroe, Neville and Ouchita Christian starting practice to defend state titles.

quote:

OUACHITA TRANSFER MIA AT WEST MONROE DRILLS
Ouachita transfer Cameron Robinson did not take the West Monroe practice field Monday. Coaches told The News-Star the 6-foot-6, 315-pound offensive lineman would sit out until they were certain of his eligibility.

quote:

LHSAA Executive Director Kenny Henderson said the association has not been asked to investigate the eligibility of any West Monroe football players. "Not officially," Henderson said.

"We have not received any request in writing. In reality, he hasn't officially transferred yet (under LHSAA rules). He may have transferred schools, but we don't consider the student having transferred until they've attended at least one class period ... As far as we're concerned, he's still a student at Ouachita." "” Jerit Roser

News Star

quote:

Fans gathered around fields early Monday morning, parking their cars on the side of the road at two area high schools.

That can mean only one thing — high school football is officially here.

All area LHSAA schools conducted their first official football practice Monday as coaches started evaluating their teams in anticipation for their season openers, most of which occur Aug. 31.

In about three and a half weeks, three certain Ouachita Parish teams will begin their titles defenses also. West Monroe (Class 5A), Neville (Class 4A) and Ouachita Christian (Class 1A) started that quest Monday, though, as they filled holes and prepared for what they hope is another 15-game season.

quote:

Neville cornerback Laurence "Hootie" Jones broke up a John Diarse pass on Monday during a red zone drill, and the offense pleaded with coaches for a pass interference call while the defense cheered Jones' effort.

Jones and Diarse joked with each other on their way to the next drill, and both said they like the offense-defense rivalry.

Hope this is the biggest rivalry these two guys ever have.

Neville will most likely repeat. OCS will continue to dominate 1A (Losing Laird is big, but I think they have enough to make another run). I'm not sure how WM stacks up this year, I'd like to see someone new make some noise in the playoffs.

Does WM have any big time prospects besides Robinson?

I no longer live in WM or Louisiana, so I dont really know. JJ27 is the man in the know. I do know this, WM program is as good as any in the country as far as how it is set up from jr high to varsity and they will good with or without major prospects.

Yeah they are definitely the type of program that can dominate without top notch prospects; that is why they are great year in and year out.

These are two more 2014 WM prospects:

RB Steven Jones

FB Greg Echols

Not real highly rated right now.

Looking forward to the season. Going to the Bayou Jam on 8/25 to see the last three games.

8/25 Bayou Jamb (at ULM)
Sterlington vs. West Ouachita 2:00
Oak Grove vs. Ouachita Christian 4:00
Bastrop vs. Ouachita 6:00
Neville vs. West Monroe 8:0

Got a nephew coaching at Bastrop. They have two 2013 DL and one 2014 DL that were 2nd team all district last year that are expected to be pretty good this year. The 2014 guy, Johnnie Marshaw is expected to be pretty highly recruited. Was told he is nearly 6'3" and all of 250 right now.

The road to the title goes through West Monroe! Barbe lost alot on defense, but has a TE that will be a tough matchup for opposing defenses!

Apparently he's a bad man that Tweets with TM7 (does he just follow TM7, or is TM7 following him?) We need an emotion for me being an old man.

DT Marklyn England and CB Xavier Woods will sign D1. Safety Cade Stone signed with LSU baseball. OLB Dylan Burdeaux committed to Southern Miss for baseball as well. Not a lot of big time recruits this year, but probably WM's best TEAM in a while.

I'm still think Woods deserves an LSU offer.

That's what a program is all about. Why do you think teams like East St. John and Destrehan have dominant years and then go into hiding for a year or so? They rely so much on talent alone (Don't get me wrong though, when they have talent, they are tougher to beat than anyone). Unfortunately, talent comes in cycles, whereas a team with a solid foundation such as WM will always be solid.
