how many from each country can make it? will there be a qualifying tournament held in each country where the top four make it or something?

better question is who is going to play with Tiger? isn't it just 2 from each country?

is it only 2? Again, I ask, how will they determine the two? will it be a qualifying tournament? I believe it should be just like the other individual sports where you have to earn your way in. would be a travesty to have tiger just handed a spot.

They are going to use the gymnastics model. Only Tiger Woods and Phil Mickelson can try to win an individual gold for the USA. No Bubba, no Fowler, no Kuchar. Only two per country.

Not serious.

They'll probably just use the world rankings like they do for tennis

Someone posted it on the olympics board the other day. It's supposed to be a 60 man field, 72 hole stroke play event. Top 15 in the world are guaranteed spots, but other than that, no country can have more than 2 participants. If it was this year, the USA would have 8 golfers qualify.

So they will use the crappy gymnastics model, where top golfers will be left out?

Great.

Not quite as crappy as gymnastics. At least being in the top 15 gets you in, but yea, it could be a lot better. I'm surprised they're limiting the field to 60.

I also wish they'd do an individual event and a team event.

Not sure. They may build one. Building a golf course would be one of the cheapest capital investments host cities have made in quite some time.

I'm not so sure about that, golf courses are not cheap and if Russia isn't big on golf, it's probably gonna be waste

Yes, the winter games are in Russia.

And the course was awarded this spring to the same designer who is redoing Doral, Gil Hanse.

oh shite I forgot that Brazil had the next Summer olympics.

Someone told me earlier that Russia had the next Olympics and I assumed he was talking about Summer.

Whatever. Still wondering what the best golf course in Russia looks like...

That's pretty much the definition of terrorism right there.

So will there be a team event and then an individual event? I think the team event could be entertaining. USA, Great Britain, South Africa, Australia, Japan and Spain would be an awesome team competition!!!
