Play against bots first. Learn to CS (which means get last hits on minions) Each last hit gives you gold. The "goal" for CS is 100 by minute 13 and 100 every 10 minutes after. If you can do that, you will have a great start.

If you play for fun, then play whatever toon you want. But if you want to win or be more competitive, get a lot of practice with a select set of champions.

get ready for a lot of rage from people. The community is very immature but that's pretty much the way online gaming is now.

Find a character in each role and master them. Only then Branch out to more characters. But you have to be versatile, no telling when you get a noob who chooses another jungler or AP Carry even if the team already has one.

Also, play vs. bots for the first 20 matches or so. Don't jump into full PvP too quickly, that can ruin the game.

Grow a thick skin because the community is vicious towards newbies. You better be a pro out of the gate or you suck

terrible advice. you will learn bad habits doing this.

you play bot games to learn champions, not the game.

I just started playing this game myself. I like the game, but the community is nothing short of atrocious. It makes WoW's fanbase seem well-behaved adults..and that's saying a lot.

I'd start by looking at cookie cutter builds of a champ you want to play. Then play against bots and once your ready to get out there play a real match. Like everyone else said, just get ready to get tounge lashed if you do bad.

At the same time, playing against players as noob sometimes won't even let you practice last hit strategy and safe pushing, which is the backbone of the lane phase.

It can be extremely frustrating. At least IMO. Didn't have bots when I started, and it took a long time to figure out pushing strategies.

Maybe rephrase as: Read up about all basic game strategies and PRACTICE them versus bots for awhile.

also...don't be a cheap arse like I was for the first 20 levels...buy wards dammit. And I would save your points and buy runes when you can get tier 3 ones, otherwise its a waste

Memorize everything everyone does...recognizing the "triggers" (visual and audio cues) and what comes after them, combined with how you react to this information, is what makes you pro in League.

yea, the community is very hostile towards noobs but seriously, it sucks when you have to waste 20-40 mins of your time bc some idiot on your team is completely ruining the fun.
