Not really trying to knock em but Mako is on the lower end of quality boats. They are not what they once were now that the brand is owned by Tracker(Bass Pro).

If that's what you can afford get it. Shop around though and make an educated decision if you are really serious.

Go to The Hulltruth website which is a boating forum and you'll find tons of info on most makes and models of boats.

If I were you I drive just up the road and look at the Nautic Stars. They have 18 ft and 19 ft bay boat models that are pretty sweet and are far superior to Mako IMO.

What kinda price they giving you on that setup? Keep in mind that the price for boat, motor, and trailer, is no where close to what the final price will be after rigging, electronics, and TTL.

I've never owned a boat before but now have a hard-on for one in a bad way. They're asking $36K for the rig at BPS with few options; the T-Top, compass and console lights. The trailor is part of the package. I'm looking for an education on the subject so any information is greatly appreciated.

for a 18' mako?? You can get a loaded to da gills nautic star for less than that. Saw a nice one at the expo today for 23k, before trolling motor and electronics.

That sounds sky high too me especially for a 2 stroke motor. You will be low 40's once you rig the boat with electronics and pay TTL.

Hell, you can get this bad motha for 36k probably

LINK

Or this one

I'm not trying to knock mako but for 36k, you've got tons of better options. I'd kill to have 36k to drop on a boat right now.

That's a nice Blazer Bay but that's really not much of a deal on it.

Sounds like the OP needs to do some homework if he is serious about getting a boat.

The one mentioned (Mako 184CC) isn't even a bay boat. Not sure what you would use it for. Too small to go offshore and not set up to for a trolling motor to fish inshore.

I definitely wouldn't go too far offshore with a single 150

This is some great feedback. As I said, this will be our first boat and I want to make sure I get one that works for us. Lake Ponchatrain, Bayou Bienvenue and other common fishing spots. Not really offshore...yet...;) I did get weak at the knees when I stepped into the Mako 184CC. If I can get a like craft for less money, I'm all ears.

36k is rediculus, I bought a 19ft nautic star with a 115, trolling motor and gps for 25k, much better option imo

Not trying to tell you what to do, but you could take that kind of money and purchase a used 24' Shearwater LOADED, which is 3X the boat.

Seriously play the used boat market right now, it's still a strong buyers market. You'll end up with so much more boat for the money - or put another way, you'll end up paying less than 1/2 that for the same/similar craft.

Don't be fooled by "new boat" - everything works philosophy either. Oftentimes it takes 20-30 hours of use to key all the kinks out.

Seriously look into pre owned options. You should have no trouble finding what you want.

Wrong

The newer Mako and Kenner boats are owned by Tracker Marine. They're basically the same boat. The boats are still designed by Kenner which means they all have a nice sharp deep v,and a dry ride.
Also, the hull truth website will not tell you that these rigs are crap. I really don't know why this rumor started because I hear it all the time.
