Like all previous flicks directed by Christopher Nolan and written by his brother Jonathan, this one defies logic and reeks of repulsive, bloated self-importance (not to be confused with anything resembling narrative) and the arrogant conviction that no matter how slick, obtuse, confounding or incompetent it gets, the fanboys will slobber approval.

definitely a troll.

from another forum:

quote:

Yes, Rex... I'm sure that this cast, packed full of Academy and Golden Globe Award winning and/or nominated actors, phoned in all of their performances, and even if they hadn't, it wouldn't have mattered because they're all morons, too stupid to comprehend the meaning of anything they were saying. What a douchebag.

Seriously, he rated it 1/4, which is the same rating he gave Green Lantern.

Yet Real Steel got a positive review from him...just no.

His real steel review:
quote:

This is real movie making that packs a solid entertainment punch, proving it doesn't matter what the genre is if genuinely talented and dedicated people are pulling the strings instead of hacks."

Christian Bale mumbles and whispers through an echo chamber, changing his appearance and his voice for reasons known only to Mr. Nolan. Michael Caine chews holes through his dialogue with a peat-bog Cockney accent so thick you can’t understand what he’s talking about anyway. You can hoke it all up with crushing violence, but that doesn’t make it pleasurable. Amid an endlessly contrived pile of red herrings, Marian Cotillard’s character seems like something they went back and invented in post-production, while Anne Hathaway, who turns out to be Batwoman in mufti, comes off as a cold, karate-chopping zombie with cleavage. There are so many plot twists I stopped counting. The Nolan brothers seem to be making it up as they go along. Not one character is developed beyond a flat, one-dimensional cardboard paper-doll construct without heart and soul, not to mention flesh and blood. Not one of these distractions invades the plot for any purpose except to extend the running time. Speaking lines they cannot possibly understand, not one actor makes any attempt to be believable. So manufactured and synthetic that they eventually lose all sense of reality, they’re like reconstituted orange juice and processed cheese. If The Dark Knight Rises is finally the funeral of Batman forever (promises, promises!), trendy technology once again triumphs over artistry, professionalism, taste and good clean fun.

If this is true or even partly true, it is like everyone's fears realized.

One dimensional characters, bloated, stupid voices, etc.

I doubt it could possible be this bad. In fact, I'm sure it will be just as good as TDK was.

And I thought Real Steel was a solid movie.

My issue isn't with Real Steel as a movie (I only mention it because it got very average reviews); it's just that the review he gave it could have easily been written for TDKR (good cast and crew, solid entertainment). One can't deny that it is a big production, it just seems like this guy is trying to pick it apart is all. Maybe it is because of the expectations after TDK.

Any positive review won't be posted on every forum like a negative review it.

It's human nature to be more critical when expectations are high.

I guess in his opinion, this Batman didn't meet his expectations from the previous film.

I'm sick of critics trashing a movie with over the top sensationalism to generate web traffic.

That's what this is and, sadly, to be expected with the biggest film release in a long time

I think this is probably one of the more fair review blurbs I've read:

quote:

If the film is not quite the achievement "The Dark Knight" was -- and maybe that's the real question -- it's still a fitting end to a very ambitious series.

Most of the top critics say that while it may not be perfect, it is still a good film and a fitting conclusion to Nolan's story.

Why? If you're going to see it anyway what does it matter what some critic says.

With a movie like this is doesn't matter but I used to rely on the tomatometer for my movie going decisions, but it's been letting me down alot lately. Now that I'm really getting into all of these reviews I'm seeing that there is alot more to it than offering critiques of a film. It's very ego driven and personal motives also seem to be a heavy factor

The tomatometer is still pretty awesome for older movies. I wouldn't have watched "the thing" without it

Why the F is this assumed? Even Yahoo chimed in and had to defend the review as being honest:

Some have speculated that negative reviewers are simply seeking attention. But Atchity told Yahoo! Movies, "It's extremely rare that we have any proof of someone writing a dishonest review just to get attention. If and when we see that, we address it with the reviewer."

Holy shite! Maybe the reviewer actually thought the film sucked...MAYBE the film DOES SUCK!

It seems most people going ape shite haven't even seen the film...but live in this fairy tale world that the next big movie by X favorite director = Citizen frickING KANE!

that's pretty fricking dead on...there are already people defending this movie like they are personally invested in it....

86% of critics rated it fresh so I think it's a fair assumption at this point.

It is not a fair assumption though to think that anyone who gives TDKR a negative review is doing so for web hits and attention.

PS Reel Steel was a good film.

Following 76% pos. critics/84% pos. fan reviews
Memento 92/93
Insomnia 93/67
Batman Begins 85/90
The Prestige 76/90
The Dark Knight 94/96
Inception 86/93
The Dark Knight Rises 86/? (so far)

I'm an unapologetic Nolan fan, I admit that, but even if you hate his movies, you have to admit the guy knows what he's doing...his camera work is fantastic, his shots can be amazing, his work is thoughtful especially for the size of the projects he works on, the editing and music are always tops.

You can't just flat out say it sucked and "nobody tried", "it's incoherent"...like Rex Reed and a few others have self aggrandizingly have done. It seems pretty disingenuous on the part of a few select critics.
