It will take better offensive production this year to help our defense.

Last year the Defense and Special teams played lights out. The offense struggled at times due to the issues at the QB position.

Now that we have the threat of a vertical passing game, the running game will open up and we will be more balanced. Hopefully the offense gets to spend a bit more time on the field thus giving the defense a rest.

Defense is prob enough to get us there.

As last yr proved an offense that can at least get a first down or two should be enough.
No more #9, so I dont we gotta worry about that.

As always the most important ingredient to making the BCSNCG is LUCK! You have to have luck with injuries, officials calls, and just sometimes the bounce of the ball. You are going to have an off game at least once in a season, and it usually takes a little luck to survive it. Many times the best teams doesn't make it to the championship game because of bad fortune.

Don't hold your breath expecting a Les Miles offense to carry anything.

Defense and special teams has been and will be what carries this team.

A little of both. Or maybe a lot of defense and a little offense. A little more than last year.

If the defense is as good as last year's, then that is a big factor in getting the Tigers to the BCSCG.

However, I don't know that the defense can produce as many turnovers as they did last season. The way Mathieu, Claiborne, Reid, Simon, Brooks and Taylor stole the ball so often was truly remarkable to watch!

To get to and win the BCSCG, the passing game is going to have to be more productive. If nothing else, the Tigers need to throw to the RBs more. I like passes to the flats, dump-offs to secondary receivers, screens and wheel routes. LBs have a tough time keeping up with RBs on pass patterns. The Tigers have a truly great set of RBs, and need to take advantage of that depth.

That is not to say that the Tigers should be limiting their shots down-field to the WRs. With OBJ, Jarvis Landry, Shep, Wright, Turner and Boone (and whoever else might develop...like Armand Williams, Avery Johnson or Fobbs), I believe we'll see some long, quick-strike TDs this season.

I can't see how the offense won't be significantly improved, and that's what the Tigers need to win the BCSCG!! IMHO.

Aware you're talking about the LSU #2 all time scoring offense?

Better balance on offense run/pass.
Ability to stretch the field, WR's have to step up.
Coach with a killer instinct to put teams away, not wait until the 4th quarter.
Maintain current level of defense.

All this equals championship.

I think this is an unfair statement to the offense before JJ came back. Before the Bama game, Lee was running a fine tuned, well oiled machine. I remember being so happy to finally see a somewhat balanced offense. But after the disaster starts in the Arkansas and Georgia games and entire game for the NC, all of a sudden our offense sucked. I wonder what the difference was?

50/50 OF & DF With Mett teams will not be able to put 9 in the box like the gumps did last game. I totally agree with the above poster!

Just need to move the ball somewhat in the passing game. I like how everyone references the o sucking the last 3 games. The coincidence there is they were the best 3 teams on our schedule. I think we can make it on st and d alone.

Then explain going from 353 yds of total O and scoring 36 pts a game after the 1st Bama game to having 375 yds total O and scoring 39 pts a game going into the NCG.

Use the eye test man. It took punt returns by Tyrann Mathieu in both the Arkansas and Georgia games to get us back into them. We were playing from behind. Then look before the Bama game. We were playing ahead the entire time with fast starts and balance.

You need to dig one level deeper. And not including the absymal stats from the NC game is a clever parlor trick to try to massage your stats.

Our O absolutely sucked balls after JJ came on board except for the Arky game. The D continually gave them short fields, INT returns for TD's, fumble recoveries for TD's, and ST gave them points and field position.

I dont care who the QB was. Offensively, the first half of the Georgia game should have scared the hell out of the coaches. It sure scared the hell out of me.

They must have thought nothing of it. I love our coaches, but they arent perfect. They own that loss.

Its no coincidence we came out and played the same way against Bama.

back to the topic: Defense will carry this team, and the offense should be very productive week in and week out, with only a few stuggles against good defenses. It should be more than enough to win.

Becuase it of the balance, this team goes down as one of the best teams ever to win the BCS.

I don't think JJ was very good in the Arky game personally. He made some pretty horrible decisions with the ball
