Tower of the Hand has a new video with a scene from Game of Thrones' first season and makes it even more epic.

Sith Lord Jamie Lannister vs Jedi Maester Eddard Stark

Which leads us to the question: Who was the better sword fighter? Jamie or Eddard?

I think Jamie would have won this duel. We were kind of robbed by GRRM, in that we didn't get to see this battle royal to the finish.

Also, GRRM has referenced a lot of epic sword fights between legends. But we have yet to see the greatest fighters in the present storyline go head-to-head.

The one exception was the Mountain vs. the Red Viper. However, the Red Viper didn't use a sword. Epic fight though.

Who do you see going head-to-head in the book? Who currently has the greatest sword arm in the Realm?

I think Robert the Strong vs. Brienne of Tarth would be the best of the best.

Jamie was the better swordsman, but IMO it would have been a very close fight. We are kind of robbed of seeing any good one on one fights which sucks. Loras would be considered, Brienne, Barristan, Bronn is no slouch, and Garland Tyrell is said to be quite the badass as well.

It's easier to consider best fighter and not most skilled. I have in no particular order:

Gregor
Sandor
Areo Hotah
Victarion
Loras
Garland
Barristan
Brienne
Daario (hate him)
Greatjon Umber

All respective bad asses.

This is my up to date list btw. Jamie not included since he kind of sucks now.

I saw some people on the Westeros forum saying Ned was average but he had killed or had a part in killing two of the most famous kingsguard in history. Not to mention he was a huge part in beating Connington & Rhaegar's hosts.

I'm not so sure that we will see Jon Snow fight with a sword again.

I just re-read the Varamyr prologue in ADWD. GRRM put a lot of detail into that chapter regarding wargs. It must be foreshadowing for Snow in the next book, which means he will be in Ghost for a while.

Of course, Melisandre could end up with Snow's body...

Jon Snow will be Azor Ahai reborn. GRRM won't throw perhaps the most important character in the series into a wolf's body and leave it at that.

I don't think Jon will stay in a Ghost for long. But I do think the wargs will eventually find their way into the dragons.

You do make a good point about Jon reborn as AA. That appears to be the mostly likely story arch.

I've seen it to and I just don't buy it. Just because no one says how great he was doesn't mean he was average. He is of the north and has no interest in hearing how much of a bad arse he is. Neither he nor Jojen would find some singer to tell of how valiantly they fought to defeat 3 of the greatest swordsman of all time. Ned was a BOSS in the rebellion. Aside from Connington and Rhaegar's host, he also took care of Storm's End and led the assault on the Ironborn. An average swordsman my arse.

It's a spoiler thread, have at it

Just realizing I wrote Jojen and not Howland. But I think they are the same person, so I'm not editing

I agree. At the time of his death, I think that Eddard may have been a top ten sword.

Ned did defeat Arthur Dayne, the Sword of the Morning, although he did need Howland Reed to do it (we just don't know exactly what Reed did...yet). Ser Dayne may have been the Realm's No. 1 sword at the time of this fight. Ned might not win this fight alone, but I seems as though he was of a match for Dayne.

My top 10 as of the end of ADWD:

Robert Strong
Bronn
Strong Belwas
Brienne
Loras
Sandor
Greatjon
Areo Hotah
Daario
Jon Connington

:mindblown:

So you think Jojen IS Howland. Howland is aging backward for some reason......what makes you say this?

I read an interesting crackpot theory that basically confirmed Sandor was alive, but "The Hound" had died when he heard that Gregor was killed by the Red Viper.

Basically meaning that the only reason The Hound had for living was to one day kill his brother. As of now, it would seem that Sandor has lost his will to fight.

I expect that will change when The Hound learns that Gregor may still be alive.

ETA: Ser Grandfather Selmy was too old for my top ten. He is still a bad arse though.

Also, the Sand Snakes and Iron Born are tough to rank. But, I think we are going to find out in the next book.

Just watching that fight scene, I think Ned had a real good chance to beat Jamie. Jamie was starting to look like he was nervous

Syrio Forel...if the crackpot theory that he and Jaqen H'ghar are the same works out (Noone actually sees Meryn Trant kill him)

even if RIP, he was as kickass as they come.

Ser Duncan the Tall was no joke with a sword, too.

Even though he's old, I still have Barristan Selmy ranked #1. Nothing in the books has shown that the ranking should be otherwise.

The guy is still dynamite.
