That's the number I had in mind without even seeing anything official. Would love Anfield to hold 60K.

Arsenal defender Laurent Koscielny has slammed Liverpool striker Luis Suarez, accusing him of being a "cheat".

Suarez, 25, has been under the spotlight recently after being criticised by both Stoke manager Tony Pulis and FIFA vice-president Jim Boyce for his ease at going to ground, as the debate on diving rages on.

Now Koscielny, 27, has joined the list of critics, naming the Uruguay international as the player he least likes to come up against due to his antics.

"Who is the forward I hate to face? Suarez," Koscielny told L'Equipe. "He is tiresome to defend against. He cheats. He pulls your shirt, giving small blows. You always want to give him a kick but you have to be careful not to be red carded.

"For example on September 2 against Liverpool, it was the case with Luis Suarez.

"He is a player who likes to dive as soon as there is contact. During a challenge we jostled a bit each other and he fell. "He started to talk to me in English, to say it was a penalty."

Koscielny did however single out praise for former Chelsea striker Didier Drogba, who now plies his trade in China at Shanghai Shenhua.

"He is strong, he is good when he plays with his back to goal, a great header of the ball and good in the gaps," Koscielny said.

"He is the first defender, running everywhere. We saw against Barcelona last season. On his own, he crashed the Barcelona ship."

Then in another article he also added:
quote:

“Who is the forward I hate to face? [Luis] Suarez. Last season I didn’t feel too well. It was a match at 12:30pm and I don’t like that schedule.

Now Arsenal is my second favorite team, but Koscielny comes off as kind of a pussy. Sure Suarez tugs on jerseys, but who the hell doesn't? I feel like this is the case of "he's playing to aggressive". Similar instances like such in American football when someone hits too hard. Or a player crowds the plate and gets pissed when a pitcher comes on the inside corner of the plate. Diving, is a problem that almost all pool fans will agree with. Koscielny needs to just play the game.

Thats my take... not to mention, he's not that good, so I'm sure he's tugging and pulling to try and get an edge, too... defenders arent the only ones afforded that luxury..

Luis is doing his job and thats to get under defenders skin. Thats just his game. Koscielny has a job and thats to defend. He should focus on that. What does he want Suarez to do?? Not try as hard?

Whats everyone's thoughts on the continuous links to Gary Hooper of Celtic FC?

I posted something on my FB wall this last weekend about Gary Hooper. He reminds me of a younger, less well known, rough cut Torres. I wouldn't mind him joining and if he can fit into BPL like Jelavic did at Everton it would be great. That said it may take a while for him to get up to the mark therefore I would still like another more established finisher in the winter window.

Yeah, he's definitely not the sexy name... and I have not seen nearly enough of him... It's easy to dismiss his goal scoring record in the SPL, but if he can have the impact of a Jelavic, then I'd welcome it... I guess its always a crapshoot...

Anyone who can get into the fricking 6 yard box is fine by me. There are plenty of goals to be scored at Liverpool.

From what I have heard from people who watched Jelavic day in and day out Hooper is loads better than Jelavic who is nothing more than a finisher. Hooper has better technique. I hope it's all true if he decides to set up shop at the red half of Merseyside.

And I kinda agree with Beast. There are loads of goals to be scored at Liverpool but I would still like a striker with decent technique. Someone who is good on his feet and can bang the goals in for fun.

If Hooper does end up in Liverpool Red. The exploits of the last Celtic striker to play for Liverpool augurs well.

Lets be honest Koscielny was asked a question and answered it honestly. I find that refreshing. First off let me say I love watching Suarez play but he does over do it with the theatrics at times. I know yall are defending yall guy but what did Kos say that isn't true? And I also think if Suarez can get in opponents head by harassing them all game fair play to him.

Nah they would rather him lie or not answer the question than admit suarez finds "other ways" of getting goals when his striking talents get shut down

If this is referring to the fact that he has to get punched in the face for a referee to even think about blowing his whistle in the box, then I agree with you.

(I know its not.)

Bleh I don't have much of a problem with it. I just think it was made at a time when a good bit of fans are sensitive about the subject. This whole uproar over Luis when he gets stomped on, leaving cuts on his chest, and Bale's even worse dive, and Suarez is still Satan.

Tribalism at its best. No one in that country is being remotely objective about the situation. Not that I expect them to be.

I agree there is a double standard. Bale can dive all day long and it barely gets mentioned while Suarez gets hammered in the media if he were to slip and fall. Never forget that British players (Bale and Young) don't dive only scummy foreigners do.

Don't put words in anyone's mouth.

I would prefer our defenders concentrate about their own game, rather than bitch about someone else's. If Arsenal fans don't then there is no problem with that.

Also funny how Kos goes on to praise one of the most notorious divers/"cheats" in the PL in the past decade or so.

I'm sure if you asked Sagna he'd bitch about Bale. Even though he's kept him quiet throughout his time at Arsenal for the most part. Also relevant:

Yeah, I thought that was funny too. He's got like a 4 or 5 game sample size for both's play though.

I think that would be the only problem any of us have with it. Suarez is a massive douche, but he is by no means the most despicable person in the EPL. I think a good bit of his diving stems from the fact that if he stays on his feet he is at a disadvantage. Did he bring that upon himself? Yes. Doesn't change the fact that the officiating isn't objective and its getting borderline out of control.
