We need something else. Maybe some actual wingers. I'm getting tired of Wenger's projects. Ramsey's a decent prospect, though he looks to be regressing. Why continually play him on the wing where he doesn't have the speed or dribbling ability to be effective? How is that supposed to help his development if his confidence is in the tank for two years now. Not only that, why do we insist on sticking with a front four when a front two might be better defensively, as well as giving us a counter attacking threat. We should just go to a 4-4-2, as we are really bad right now. We already have that shape defensively, though when we move the ball into attack as slowly as we do, then we revert to this formless shape that involves passing it back to the CB's every other pass because teams defend us deep, knowing we can't break teams down. This is really frustrating to watch. We have to do something different. Wenger is too stubborn to do anything though.

So true that it almost approaches cliche. I have so many options right now. I could read the pensive, precise work of Nicholson Baker to get my mind of this game. Or I could continue reading Beckett, which I think will exacerbate my precarious condition. I'm screening the film Hunger for my class this week, and I know one viewing of that film will send my existential despair into a final whirlwind. I could try to masturbate. I could read some John Berryman. I could continue to work on my Nanowrimo work, a sort of Beckett-esque work about nothing important.
What are you going to do to deal with this?

Truth be told, the only reason we've remained in the top four is because of Wenger. He can only do so much. When you sell your four best players the past two seasons, and you don't even attempt to replace them with players of similar quality, then this is what happens.

Yeah, clearly we need to do something different. Really anything different. Unfortunately, injuries are making it really hard to change things up. Theo needs to start. Maybe Arshavin too. Poldi and Ramsey have given us nothing on the flanks. Wenger's stubbornness is really wearing on me. I can only take so much.
Glad we have all these cash reserves for when we crash out of the CL.

But you do try to replace them. Chamakh, Gervinho, Giroud, Cazorla, Podolski, etc. have all been brought in. Either Arsenal's scouts need to be fired or it's a problem with Wenger. And if you couple that with Wenger's comments about top 4 being as good as a trophy, it's pretty easy to see that Wenger is what's holding Arsenal back.

Standing by my statement. Just watched the game. Funny how when last season i said losing rvp would be worse than losing fabregas. believe me now?

but we havent replaced them, they tried and i love theses players because they are on Arsenal. But we havent replaced, clichy, cole, fabregas, rvp, nasri. Those are house hold names. Arsenal has a great manager, they will never win agaian until they open the check book.
You hear that? you cant replace those types of players.

Cazorla is the only player who is of the required ability to compete. Chamakh was brought in as a back-up striker on a free transfer, and apart from ten games early in his Arsenal career, has never looked like anything more than a passenger. Gervinho is a project. It's too soon to judge Podolski and Giroud. Arteta and Mertesacker were good signings, as was Koscielny. None compare with the losses of Fabregas and Van Persie though. We've had to completely change the way we play each of the past three seasons because our best player left.
We've had pretty average teams the last 4 years. We've overperformed based on the talent in the squads and the injuries we've had to key players. That's the truth of the matter, and Wenger is responsible for the fact that we have had average teams, and for the fact that we've stayed in the top four.
I will admit Wenger does like projects, players he can mold into good players, which he has done with a lot of players we've sold recently. There are just a lot of boardroom problems, as we're just very reluctant to spend. And when Wenger magically gets us into the top four like he did in 2006-07 and 2011-12, the board continues to sit on the money.

Instead of experimenting with chamakh, park, giroud, gervinho etc I'd rather have bought one or two known commodities..

Not mad at any of you, just mad that the team i love has failed miserably for 7 years. the one ive been watching since 1997.
Oh and a big frick you TO VAN PUSSIE.
Players might love the Arsenal, but they love winning more. 4th place isnt good enough for me. Pay for the fricking players. We may never see guys like wilshere reach full potential, because we will sell them when the money comes calling.

Giroud may not be the answer, but our problem is more wing, fullback, and midfield related. Giroud is getting terrible service. Made really smart runs today at least 4 times and only got it once. Most glaring was Ramsey not playing the early ball the one time he beat Evra. Maybe RvP's ability to drop back into the midfield more effectively would be helpful, but as far as being a number 9 goes, it wouldn't matter much who was up top.

I agree i was harsh on giroud, but his movement is amazing. he looks and runs like a true player.

I think the essential problem is that we are playing a very deep line defensively, pressing from the front, but when we get the ball, we are super slow in cycling it into attack. So in addition to having players who always want the ball at their feet, other than Giroud, who is at least willing to run, we give the opposition time to retain their defensive shape.
The truth is that we don't have the type of player who can succeed in a deep line counter attacking system, especially when our wide players drop as deep as they do to help out our fullbacks. We have the type of players that require compact shape, intricate passing, and a high line with pressing throughout the field.

You sure do have some rants
I think thats a little exaggeration, considering we're one of very few teams to never finish outside the top 4 (I think man u is the only other one). I know we have no trophies, but we are far from failing miserably.
I just hope our board realizes that they're the biggest biggest problem holding us back. They need to allow more funding for players

Where do players like Ox, Theo, and possibly Gervinho stand in the counter attack? Those guys actually like to push the ball forward quickly, take on defenders, and attack the goal.
