I have a 2006 90 hp Yamaha two stroke engine that's acting a little quirky.

It'll run like a champ all day at 4000 rpms or under but a couple of times this weekend, when I gave it throttle beyond the 4000 rpm (around 4500-5000) it would throttle down to about 3500. This didn't happen all of the time, just a couple of times.

It wouldn't throttle down anymore and you could simply pull the throttle back a little and then pick back up to cruising speed.

Most importantly, the motor is spitting out lukewarm water out the side and the engine alarm is NOT going off at any point (checked the alarm and it works).

Any suggestions?

What kind of fuel do you put in it?

I put in non-ethanol gasoline in it,

the person that last had the boat left about 1/4 regular gas but used fuel treatment.

I guess I should have mentioned that it'd been a couple of months since the boat was run.

Well there's your likely culprit.

The solution:
