well, since I didn't see the other 4 threads for today I thought I'd start one. This weekend I picked up a $20 submersible pump from Harbor Freight and used it to circulate water from a plastic tote with frozen gallon milk jugs in it through the wort chiller. Between this and the ice bath I put the boil pot in, I had it from boiling to about 76 in roughly 15 minutes
things learned while brewing this weekend:
1. dont need so much water in the wort chiller pump tote: less water = colder water faster
2. carboy caps suck for a blow off tube, put the hose on the airlock
3. blowoff tubes are awesome, so much better than cleaning krausen off the walls

Classic American light from brewers best. I have ordered what they call Continetial pilsner for my next one.

Nothing new on the homebrew front, other than waiting on my all-grain kit to come in.
I did, however get to try some new beers.
Parish Canebrake - Finally got to try this at avenue pub friday, and at the cove saturday. Very good beer, can't wait till they bottle.
Green Flash Le Freak - Great beer. To me, it tasted like halloween wax candy. I know that sounds gross, but it tasted very candy-ish and made me nastalgic about halloween as a kid.
I also picked up a 4 pack of le freak, and a 4 pack of green flash rayon vert, will try today.
I also tried Dogfish Head My Antonia. It wasn't bad, but probably won't get again.

wax teeth were my favorite
brewed a wheat extract, couldn't find the lid to my bucket, so i split it up into my 2 5 gallon carboys..
imperial stout in the middle...
things i learned this weekend:
1. the hydrometer i've been using is about .010 off. i happened to notice it was reading right at 0.90 when i was sanitizing it, so i got my backup and checked it. i've used in my last last 4 all grain batches and have been thinking my efficiencies really sucked. FML. but it explains a lot and glad I caught it... and i just added more DME to my stout to make up the difference. that should now put my stout at about 11.2% abv.
2. don't try brewing by yourself when you have a 9 month old to babysit.
3. check to make sure the connections on your IC are tight and not leaking hosepipe water before putting it into your wort.
4. make sure you know where the lid to your fermenting bucket is at prior to starting.

That's the first time anyone has referenced anything I have posted.
I'm going to celebrate with some light beer.

I brewed a porter today. Didn't this weekend cause my yeast was slow (Wyeast wasn't making any movement, finally an overnighter showed life)
I got it in the plastic tub and got a swamp cooler going to keep my fermentation temsp down.
I need to invest in a wort chiller, these ise baths are taking way too long. Prolly just use an immersion chiller. Any advice?
