I have what looks like rat shite in my potted tomatoe and bell pepper plants, although not in my cucumbers. Any idea to what this could be?

Yep. Squirrels or chipmunks. Have had this happen here before. Remedy: Set a couple of Victor mouse traps in each pot. Don't bait the traps with anything, though. Just set the traps on opposite sides of the plants. It's real comical to see squirrels and those chipmunks performing gymnastic flips out of and away from those potted plants when they spring the traps. They finally get the message and leave your potted plants alone. Don't worry about catchin the squirrel in the trap. If he does get caught, he's plenty big enough and strong enough to free himself without any assistance. Very funny to watch, too!

It is a tomato worm. A big green worm the same color as the plant--very hard to see. In a couple of days, he will eat all of the leaves on the plant

This was it exactly! He didn't make it to my tomatoes but demolished a bell pepper plants. I killed the worm just hope he didn't bring any friends with him that I didn't see!
