Bought this little flat and have only run it 3 times. Prior to running it, brought it to a local outboard repair shop and told them to replace the impeller, and fix anything that needs fixing. They replaced the impeller and said everything else was good to go.

1st time out, ran good...for a while. Then started this crap where...at WOT...it would bog down and then race and then bog and race and bog.

Idled back to the dock and left, called a friend who said it might be because there's a vaccuum in the fuel tank. Paid attention to the vent on the gas tank the second time. Did the same thing, ran fine, then started that crazy shyt. Closed the vent off and it ran fine. Thought that was it.

Yesterday, ran fine for a while, then started that crap again.

Seems like it's only after it gets warm it does it. Ideas? Thermostat maybe? It's pissing me off!

Sounds like a bad fuel pump to me

Also could be a leaking primer bulb

Bulb is good...checked that and the entire line. It's brand new, by the way. Could be the fuel pump, but wouldn't it do it from the get go? This seems to only happen after running a while, and then continues from there. But when I first get going, it's fine for several minutes.

Not necessarily. I had a bad pump that only started starving fuel at higher rpms

I've had this happen to me with an older motor. It took me forever to figure out because it really seemed like a gas issue. Come to find out, the foot had a seal go out and water was getting into the lower unit. So much pressure would build up when after sitting in the water for a while that what you described would happen. Idled fine. Trolling speeds fine. Under power, bogged down.

Anyway - check the foot. See if you have water getting into it. It could be when they replaced the impeller and checked it out, a seal got damaged.

I'll check that too, but FWIW, it doesn't do it at high RPM when I first get going. I can run WOT for several minutes, and then outta nowhere, it bogs down while at WOT...which sucks.

Yeah can't totally be sure. Some smaller OBs with multiple carbs can hold several minutes of fuel in them at WOT before running out. A bad fuel pump is something most shops will diagnose unless they have a tank that they run the motor in.

PS - sorry for the high jack but don't you fish around lake catherine? I was going to try the eastern shore of it but was wondering if it's too shallow out there for a bayboat. Thanks.

FWIW, I always run the fuel out before pulling it out of the water. Wouldn't that eliminate that scenario? Or would the act of pumping up the bulb prior to starting and choking it counteract?

I don't frequent the area much anymore, but I used to fish there quite a bit. I did so out of a Nautic Star 1900, so no...it's not too shallow for a bay boat. We used to (coming from MS) launch out of the Rigolets a lot, and if Lake Borgne was too rough to cross to get to the marsh, we would use Lake Catherine as an alternative. There's pretty good fishing on the eastern shoreline. There's a few cuts where you can anchor and fish, or what we'd do mostly is troll along the shoreline and cast for reds. The water is usually pretty clean in there if there's an east wind, and you can sight cast that shoreline. But there's a lot of trout in there too, as well as the occasional flounder.

Does not sound like fuel problem. I would check your cables/plugs/coils.

Thanks for the Lake Catherine info. BTW, I always have been told to never run the gas all the way out of the motor. Something about not having oil on the cylinder walls for the next crankup and the reeds in the carb jets getting stuck in the closed position IIRC.
