I know, I know, let's get through Thursday and this year first, but I couldn't not mention this.

Not sure if anyone else saw this, but Joe Gerrity was on Fox 8 last night talking about all of the cap space this year and especially next year and said that it may seem like a long shot, but we conceivably would have enough money to go after both CP3 and DW12. Basically, as we've all mentioned already, we just can't sell out this year.

The fantasy of a big four of Gordon/Davis/Howard/CP3 is just unreal to me and might be just that, a long shot. Can't we dream, though?!

We have a much better shot at getting CP3 back than getting Dwight, even though CP3 is still a longshot. Dwight would never want to come to a small market

I agree. That's why I said can't we dream!

BUT, if we were to sign CP3 first, if you're Dwight, don't you have to at least think about NOLA? With the other three, a young, defensive minded coach, a small, but passionate fan base. Not to mention NOLA isn't a bad spot for the movie biz! It's not Hollywood, but it holds up.

I can just see Dwight and AD playing volleyball swatting shots back and forth.

If we could secure CP3, I'm sure he would raise an eyebrow to it. I don't want to dream b/c dreaming may get my hopes up

I need some salary cap clarification/illumination.

From what I gather the cap is basically $58 million this year, right?

And then next year it is gonna go to approx $71 million? Right?

And as of right now, we have a approx $15 million tied up in our current players, right?

So then we have roughly $43m to play with this year or roughly $56m for next year. (???)

Yes.

No way. It will probably increase, but not drastically. $71m will be around where the luxury tax kicks in.

If Gordon gets a bit below a max deal and if we don't add much cost to next year's payroll (ie. fill out or roster with players on 1 year deals), we would have enough for 2 max players next year. We're almost definitely not going to lure 2 max players, though, but it would be nice to leave the space for one if possible (this wouldn't be difficult, even if we pick up all of our player options next year).

Thanks.

Yeah, googling around now, and a couple of places are saying they expect the '13 cap to rise to only $61 million.

Quit drooling, you forgot that 99% of the max players don't want to come to a tiny market

Looking at the free agent list, it looks like the only max guys are Bynum, Paul and Howard. Hardin is a RFA. Doubt we get any of those guys.

There are a few good players to go after next year. Al Jefferson, DuJuan Blair (RFA), Ibaka (RFA), D. Collison (RFA), Devin Harris, Paul Milsap, Stephen Curry (RFA), Dorrell Wright, Monta Ellis, N. Pekovic (RFA), Jose Calderon and Marvin Williams.

Some decent players in FA next year if they hit the market.
