..rest of the 2012 PGA season..
He won another $10K this weekend, bringing his goal down to $92K, but he was cut after the 3rd round. There is a rule that if a certain number of players make the cut, a 2nd cut will occur for any player not tied for 69th or better after the 3rd round. His biggest hurdle is sponsor exemptions, as a player without status, he only gets 7 exemptions per season. He qualified for the US Open on his own and the Travelers as well with his US Open placing. I think he only has 3 more exemptions that he can use before he has to qualify each week like Patrick Reed who has qualified 5 times in the Monday qualifier to play in that week's tourney.
The Par 4 17th kicked the shite out of him this past weekend. He was +5 on that hole over the 3 rounds he played it: Double in the 1st round, bogey in the 2nd round, and double in the 3rd round.
I think the double in the 3rd round broke his back. He was -3 for the tourney heading into that hole and doubled it, followed by a bogey on the next.

Peterson earned $276,841 for his week at The Olympic Club, bringing his season total to $309,411 in five PGA Tour starts. The 2011 NCAA individual champion from LSU needs to earn another $102,532 to secure special temporary membership on the PGA Tour through the end of the season.

Something to get me through the slowest sports days before football camps start cranking up in 6 weeks.

Besides Toms and Peterson, what other former tigers are regularly playing on the PGA tour?

Brian Bateman here and there, but I haven't seen him on the tour in a couple of years.

When is the next tourney he's got an exemption or qualified on Monday for?

D.A. Points played at LSU for one season, IIRC. Won Pebble last year or the year before.

I doubt he can get the extra 92k he needs without playing big purse tournaments... Hopefully he can find a way to play as much as possible though. I pay attention to PGA when he is involved. Would love him to be an everyday regular on Tour.

He's done a great job of making cuts: 6 events, 5 cuts made, so he has a shot.
If he can rest up (he has admitted that he was worn down after the US Open), work on his game back in BR and choose the right tournaments that fit his game, he can definitely make it.

So by finishing high in the us open, does that qualify him for any of the other majors this year?
Posted on 6/25/12 at 11:05 am to LSU1018
The top 10 finishers at the U.S. Open are fully exempt from qualifying for the following year's Open, and the top eight are automatically invited to the following season's Masters. - from US Open Wiki page. I dont think he gets any automatics into any other tourny but it should help get exemptions.

Next year's US Open and Masters.
Another bit of info. If he finishes in the Top 126-150 of money leaders, he is exempt until the final round of Q-school. A perk for being in the final round of Q-school makes you eligible for the Nationwide tour if you don't get your PGA tour card.

Tours usually put a limit on the number of sponsor exemptions golfers can accept in any given year, but again, this is something that varies by tour. On the PGA Tour, PGA Tour members can take an unlimited number of sponsor exemptions; non-PGA Tour members can take a maximum of seven.

His problem is that he is limited to a total of 7 sponsor exemptions this year since if isn't a PGA Tour member. He's played in 6 events this year. Were any sponsor exemptions (other than the US Open)?

Loupe is actually staying with me right now in Houston. Placed third yesterday in a nationwide tourny and another one starts Tom

The Open wasn't a sponsors exemption.
He got into Pebble, Mexico, New Orleans on sponsors. He still has 4 left, but time is running out because of the playoffs, and sponsors are cut down for the fall series.
Special temp gives you unlimited sponsors exemptions.

He said on morning drive the other day that he has gotten an exemption for the Frys.com tourney lined up

Ed, are you KBO?

I knew that. He qualified through Sectionals/Regionals. Was the Travelers an exemption or did his top 10 placement in the US Open get him that spot?
I hope he gets in the True South Classic near Jackson, MS which is concurrent with the British Open. A chance to steal a nice paycheck with the heavy hitters being out of the country. The course, however, looks easy for the Pros with -22 winning last year.
