re: Surfer missing in Orange Beach

That's terrible.

I was told today that the surf is so powerful in Destin, that many parts of the beach have been washed out (disappeared), and there is a $250 fine for going in the water.

Serious bidness out there.

I'm posting from Destin right now. I know nothing about a fine.

Wait, how does going in the water make the beach wash away faster?

Sand sticks to your doughy white butt.

Doughy white butt goes in the water.

Sand goes into the water.

COASTAL EROSION!

Ran into a friend of mine after church today. His sister is there, and TWSS.

I don't know much about fluid dynamics and the environment, but the consensus is that when greater amounts of water impact the environment with great forces, the integrity of that environment might change. There is a word for it. E-something....

Damn! Those waves look awesome. I used to live across the street from the beach access right there at Cottons. We would have some nice waves every once in a while at that break by the pier, but nothing that looked that nice. Usually it's a lot choppier when you get waves that big in the gulf.

for sure...decent form for being in the middle of that shite. It's hard to get really clean big swell in the panhandle simply because the gulf isn't that big compared to the atlantic and pacific...but that looks really nice, especially that right.

With that size, I'm wondering if the missing guy took one hard and was maybe knocked out. That's decent size for the gulf.

nah not quite that big...waves are funny as hell because a 5' wave will look very big at water level.

They are every bit 6-8/9' though

I'm on the beach at Cotton Bayou access and 2 surfers/idiots just paddled out on their surf board into the huge waves. Some people are too stupid for their own good.

Edit: Sun just came out with dark stormy clouds to the west and the east along with the very rough ocean. As pretty a scene as I've ever seen here before.

why? because they are doing something that they enjoy? Just because you can't do it doesn't mean its "stupid" there is of course risks if they don't know what they are doing... but for the majority of guys who surf regularly/know how to paddle and duckdive those waves aren't really anything dangerous. Guys go out in exponentially more dangerous surf on a daily basis around the world. People just aren't used to seeing that on the gulf coast.

Had a friend get slammed into the bottom by a huge wave yesterday, dislocated his shoulder. I also got tossed around like a ragdoll. We left today to double-red flags. Someone would have to be crazy to go out on that.
