Trying to get some hogs up at a friend's camp in Woodville. Bated with corn, went out at night, set in the stand over some mud wallows. Nothing. Need some suggestions to get over this dry spell

Shark with laser beams.

Hog dogs. Only way I've ever hunted em.

5 gallon bucket filled half full of corn. Add a pack of yeast and a pack of kool-aid. I prefer grape but it probably doesn't matter. Add water until corn is submerged a few inches under water. Put the lid on bucket and let the fermentation start. When the top is about to blow off take contents to the woods. Once in your spot use post hole diggers to dig a hole as deep as you can. Pour the contents of bucket in the hole and go home. Return 3-4 days later for the hunt. The hogs will find the mixture and spend some time digging until they get the last kernel of corn. You need to hunt the wind as well. Hogs are smart and they can smell you as good as a deer.

If you have something to ride that is quiet like a golf cart, you can ride around at night. You can hear them. Also if you have a feeder, put a camera on it. They will get in a routine of visiting around the same time every night. Usually within a couple hours of when the feeder goes off.

First things first: Go purchase a Judge.

They are smart and can have a large range. If you pressure them too much they will leave an area for a few days. I find a spin feeder set to throw twice a day will get them establishing a pattern pretty well. If you need them to find an area quicker sour some corn and pour on the ground over a small salt block. They will keep coming back during this heat for the salt. Despite common beliefs they can hear and see fairly well. If there is a large sounder of them they are less spooky with natural noises though (not metal sounds)
If you go out at night try spotlighting them. Sometimes if the grass is mid shoulder high on them they will just stand there and watch you thinking they are hidden. Their eyes glow red/orange unlike deer which are green. They do see color so camo in the daytime is a must.
Aim for the earhole and never worry about trackng one. 22LR is plenty for even the biggest hog if hit in the earhole. 7mmMag may not be enough for a shoulder shot on big ones though.
Good luck and KILL EM ALL!

Also use trail cams to figure out when they are coming and how often. We have been hammering them in the daytime the last month or so. While they are certainly more active at night it doesn't mean they have to move at night only

An Atomic bomb would work fairly good.

Bleeding purple, as you being the resident pig expert, I have a question about traps. If I build a corral trap and kill the pigs in the trap will other pigs come in it afterwards or would I be better off building a portable trap?

The answer is yes, they will come in it afterwords. Of course, not all pigs are the same, but we had no problems this year with our big corral trap at our property.
We staked a PVC pipe with caps on the ends with holes drilled in it, and filled it with corn. It doesn't take the hogs long to empty it, but it slows other critters down from eating all your corn.

Awesome!! Thanks. I thought about putting the pipe in there as well.

I use a game camera that I use to keep up with what times they come out. Just use common sense, have a good setup, establish patterns. Do you have one, or several? If its momma and her young, shoot the mom and you shouldn't have trouble trapping the kids. They are smart for animals, but not elusive. I haven't had hog trouble in a year, I kinda miss it.

Always wanted to hog hunt. I feel like there should be a ton of farmers around LA begging people to come kill off some hogs. We should start a classified section.

I recall on here a while back plans for some big PVC pipe thing that holds corn and also rocks or something, chained to a tree, to make a racket when they are trying to tear into it.

drag-I agree if you shoot them in the trap they will come back. if you remove them live they will come back quicker though. design your trap so they can keep pushing in after the first group gets trapped also. There was a huge thread about hog trapping a few months ago and I deatiled how I built the traps and other tips.
I like to bring a shovel to remove the blood when I shoot them in the trap and then pour soured corn or a sweet fruity soda right on the blood spots.
Sensi, if you promise NOT to dry hump my leg we can work something out. It needs to be in July though or you will have to wait until after deer season.
