The dude is a dumb frick but why in the article are they saying it was done by "accidental loophole"? The bank fricked up and made a mistake. What the dude is was wrong but it's kinda funny how they claim it was a loophole and not an error.

I don't think bankruptcy can avoid legal settlements in civil court. Can an OT Lawyer confirm?

How much time he does depends on his rap sheet. He could do as little as 5 months.

As for paying it back...if I had any of it saved I would be the newest citizen of some Mexican resort town.

This is the banks fault?

Sure the error that allowed him to continue to pull money out was, but this guy knew he had $300 in his checking account... Where the frick did he think the other $1,499,700 came from? "Oh da ATM gave it to me, must be mines"

Some people also think that those big evil banks made people buy houses they couldn't pay for too. This thought process makes me

Now if you put your grill on his porch and he continued to use it as if it were his own; yea I think he's ok.
Or to make it more accurate to this situation then if you trusted your grill to a friend, who put it on some dude's porch then who do you hold responsible for that? You blame this guy for using a grill that was put on his porch?

Nope. Nope. Nope. It's a very good analogy. The money was there where he could take it. He knew it was not his. He deliberately took it.

In the case of my grill, someone saw that it was available and deliberately took it. Whoever took it didn't gamble it away - they probably sold it. Either way, they took something that they knew was not theirs.

The bank left the money where it could be taken, just like I left my grill where someone could just wheel it off. They bank may have made a mistake, but it was not their fault that a criminal decided to take advantage of the situation and steal the money.

Anybody ever get incorrect change back from a restaurant or store of some kind? They give you an extra five; do you keep it?

Except you left the grill on YOUR property. This money was put into his account, he didn't steal it out of someone's account.

Dude should not have done it; I'm in agreement with that now. I HAVE SEEN THE LIGHT

This was an order by the US attorney. Does that work the same as a civil settlement?

I thought a civil judgment would be discharged through bankruptcy, but that might not be right. Interested to know as well.

ETA: wrote this before I read FalseProphets post.

THIS!!!

And he did not gamble the funds away. 60% of that money is hidden and he is going to do his time and walk to Mexico like that black gentleman from the Shaw Shank Redemption.

I'm surprised he had a checking account in the first place.

No, I don't. I figure a cashier is going to have to pony up the money when the register doesn't balance at the end of the night. So I give it back.
