Fought the bear with ski poles. I'm gonna go with, if I'm hiking in bear country, I'm carrying something a little more powerful than a ski pole.
Had to wait 2 hours 30 feet in a tree for help.

Better be glad it wasn't a black bear, those f'kers can climb.
It's going to be a rough year this year until the big salmon runs because the snows are still deep at relative low elevations, forcing bears and moose down into populated areas. Two girls were stomped by a moose in Eagle River about a month ago.
