Me and my buddy were talking last night about how having a Man U or Chelsea-type come in and beat the MLS All-Stars by 4 or 5 goals might actually HURT the MLS reputation instead of promote it.

So what about the US national team as an opponent for the All-Star game? There are a large number of American soccer fans who don't follow the MLS because they don't feel like it's a respectable league. This would give those people the chance to see the talent of the league compared to their national team, and could still see players like Dempsey, Donovan, Altidore, Timmy Howard, etc. Those players that might be shared between the two teams (Donovan, Wondo, Goodson, etc.) could play for the All Stars.

It would be a pretty good game IMO, and it might gain some respect from those American soccer fans who don't follow the league. The MLS needs to tap into that market, IMO.

MLS All Stars vs USMNT could hurt both instead of promote it.

In addition to that, the All Stars have held their own against the big teams.

I'll set the number of fans that follow MLS and NOT the US National Team at 10%.

You can take the over/under.

Please remember to factor in the .005% of MLS fans that identify as Chivas USA fans.

I'm talking about the opposite. The number of fans in THE COUNTRY who follow soccer of some kind (world cup, euros, premier league, la liga, whatever), but NOT the MLS. I have at least 3 good friends who are big premier league fans, but think the MLS is garbage so don't follow it.

Maybe so. I try and sell my buddy all the time on the MLS (he's a big liverpool fan) and he really could give a shite about it haha. I just think it would be interesting to see

You've got to accept it as being Championship or League One caliber, then enjoy.

This would be a horrible idea and most USMNT guys would be with their clubs already.
