Are we really losing ground in recruiting or have our players been undervalued?

Les Miles and staff has accumulated some great talent over since he has been here. Every year we are considered one of the most talented teams in the country. Why are we getting such low ratings by the recruiting sites. Rivals had last year's class ranked 18th. This season ESPN has us at 13th. I think this class looks extremely strong. But are we looking at things thru P&G shades or are we really not getting top end guys?

Edit: Conclusion, ESPN sucks

what exactly has this staff done to not prove to you that they develop talent well...3 stars, 4 stars, and 5 stars...chill and enjoy the recruiting ride. Our talent is just fine.

I would look more at Rivals, 247 and Scout for ratings and that is never a sure thing. ESPN recruiting service is garbage. They have no clue and never will…
The ratings only give us a sense of the potential the class may have. We have to wait for reality…..
No site is perfect but ESPN always has the wrong information or are way behind everyone else when getting their info.

Chap, I don't doubt our staff's ability to develop talent especially on the defensive side. I just wondering why it seems like our class ratings are lower than normal. Yeah, I know it is too early to tell why our final ranking will be. And we don't know exactly how good last years class will be until about 2-3 years from now. I just want to know the overall opinion of other LSU fans.

The overall opinion is that I could give a frick what our class ranking is, as long as we're competing for SEC titles.

Rivals has us as the #5 class right now if that makes you feel better. Plus we still have plenty of big names still on our board like Williams Beckwith Gilmore etc.
It'll all be ok

Recruiting services are great for providing information and film on commits/targets that you wouldn't otherwise get. As for the evaluation of the recruits, call me crazy, but I'll trust the coaching staff to go after their own needs and snag some top talents.

If you go by rankings we are not the most talented team, thst would be ur bamas fsu and auburns. But have rhe nest record in all of football last season should tell you all you need yo know. These coaches know what they are doing, and know exactly the type of player they are looking for.

LSU is the most talented team in the country....right there with Alabama.

Seriously, who has more talent than LSU? I am talking total team talent, and depth

This class will be another top 5

As long LSU keeps dominating....I could care less where they finish in the recruiting rankings

Last year was a bit disappointing with some big fish that got away, but we have already made up for it....

Keep in mind that we haven't been getting credit for all the guys we signed. They chose to simply ignore the fact that Hill was part of last years class. And believe it or not he looked like he might be the best back on the team this year. We got zero credit for him. Just one example.

Also Les Miles and company are better at evaluating talent than the scout, rivals etc. Not really a knock on them as they evaluate everyone (or try to cough cough Jr College) with a staff about the size of only a handful. Our coaches actually deeply dissect each players game.

Exposure. I'm thinking many of the LSU recruits dont have much film or don't attend many camps. IMO, Danielle Hunter will be a beast. He is a 4-star prospect but he looks like he will develop into a monster. His high school coach said he will be better than another prospect he coached (Von Miller). Who knows why we were rated so low in the last class.

Who cares what some recruiting site says about the guys we're getting? LSU's staff is excellent at evaluating talent and turning them into players that produce. As long as we're winning games, rivals and scout.com can say our recruiting class is dead last for all I care.

Our recruiting sucks but "Les Miles is a crappy coach that only wins because we have the most talent". Does not compute!

We recruit based on OUR needs, not what rivals says.

They don't put much effort, if any into talented jucos and players with injuries who don't have much tape.

For instance, Ricky jefferson was ranked much higher before his injury.

I think the recruiting rankings are more or less accurate.

You'd definitely want the top-ranked class vs No.18 and last year, was, in many ways a disappointing class, especially losing out on Davis and Collins.

However, LSU has recruited top ten classes generally, and seems to have developed those classes very well overall. Outside of the QB position, you hear people saying almost every year that LSU has as much talent as anyone in the country.

1. A lot of that goes to Moffitt

2. LA seems to frequently have players that are under the radar who become great players (TM7, MC9 etc)

LSU has lost some battles, but the talent in place right now is at least top 5, if not higher

Will be interested to see if this holds with some expected losses from this junior class.
