ESPN should not be considered. It is very obvious of their agenda after they failed to even mention okie st for 2 weeks last december. They are all about the brands, like bama, texas, usc, etc...

247s team rankings make no sense. They are also very biased towards bama. The co-owners are both Gumps.Shea went to 247, so coverage should be incredible.

Scout is consistent and their team ratings make sense. They rate a full class of 25, as it should be. Also, scout seems to be the only outlet that doesnt overvalue bama players. As long as scout doesn't take a shite like rivals did last year when they lost local scouts, they are best IMO.

Rivals hopefully rebounds but lost a shite ton of cred with me not including 3 of our players last year and their inaccurate shitty state rankings. Rivals instate rankings are better this year based on national rankings so far. Last year was a joke.

Team rankings:
Scout
Rivals
247

Media Coverage:
247
scout
Rivals

Sonny and Shea will make 24/7 LSU site great. Don't know much about 24/7 recruiting but I know they will have the best coverage of lsu sports.

Jesus, do Bama grads own every recruiting site? I've heard for a while that Rivals is run by Bama grads, now 247 too? And when did they buy all of them, cause Bama's recruiting rankings weren't too high before 2007-08. We didn't have a recruiting board back in 03 and 04, but I'm guessing LSU fans were fine with LSU being ranked 1 and 2 back then (and in 2009). Probably felt the sites were "fair" .

LSU's 2011 class was top 5, but still maybe too low. 2012 was not a spectacular class, but a little under rated by sites not counting Hill. 2013 looks to be another top 5 class, especially since some of our commits and guys we have left on the board that seem likely to sign with us could jump in the rankings as they play their sr season. 2014 should be unreal. LSU will be loaded for quite a while.

Les Miles and staff has accumulated some great talent over since he has been here. Every year we are considered one of the most talented teams in the country. Why are we getting such low ratings by the recruiting sites. Rivals had last year's class ranked 18th. This season ESPN has us at 13th. I think this class looks extremely strong. But are we looking at things thru P&G shades or are we really not getting top end guys?

Edit: Conclusion, ESPN sucks

You have to consider WHO is responsible for evaluating the talent in-state for the bigger outfits.

ESPN is pretty unreliable in general.

Rivals is Scike Scarborough. There's nobody there that doesn't realize by now that guy sucks. He's been mailing it in for several years now and was never a truly accurate film grader or talent evaluator of any note to begin with.

He was asking folks as recently as a month or so back who John Diarse was at a 7 on 7 competition.

Scout is...Who again? Randy Ro-freaking-setta? What a joke.

Now 247 is the new player but they are up and comers and ultimately, you'll see those rankings-especially in 2014 & 2015-start to improve thanks to Sonny & Shea putting in time and effort on the recruiting front to rank the STATE.

They profile and analyze the STATE, and not just the kids LSU is after.

But you see us undervalued because we have guys running sites that are completely asleep at the wheel with one notably excellent exception.

Didn't read all the responses to OP, but one thing the first-pagers failed to note: If LSU actually signed the ones that were at the top of their board, they would rank much higher. True that the staff does a good job of development, and LSU has good talent despite losing out on a number of recruits they wanted, but to deny that LSU could do better- and at same time have a higher recruiting ranking- is major denial. Let's see if the remaining top La. players stay at home this year (or if LSU signs those who are better than them.)

No need to wait the writing is on the wall already. This year class is kicking some as and a our biggest issue is who to turn away for lack of room. This years class will be very very very good.

Last year we did have a little dip but not as bad as the rankings indicate.

Hill is the perfect example and Jarred Randall. I don't think we got credit for either one of those guys but guess what? They play at LSU! Boggles the mind that players join a class and the oh so important ranking websites act as though those guys don't exist.

When Hill is running over defenders and someone ask what class did he sign with how do you answer? Ummm... according to rivals he isn't on the team so none of his TD's count.

Our recruiting sucks but "Les Miles is a crappy coach that only wins because we have the most talent". Does not compute!

I agree with your point. Nick Saban is a dynamite recruiter.

The reason people say Bama grads own 247 is because they do. The same Bama grads that own 247 owned Rivals. They sold the rights of Rivals to Yahoo. These same Bama grads then started 247 once the non-compete clause expired. There; you're all caught up.

In addition to the fact that both 247 and Rivals left 3 LSU players off their team rankings last year, it just seems odd that the 2 sites these guys have thier footprints on rate Bama 1 every year and no one knows how to calculate thier Team Rankings. Let me know when you figure out how 247 ranks. It makes no sense. The only site that has Team Rankings that make sense is Scout. That is why I use Scout for Team Rankings, although they have LSU ranked the lowest currently.

To illustrate a comparison, look at Scout since Saban's arrival. Bama is ranked 1, 2, 4, 7, 2. Not exactly chump classes, but also not 1 every year, which is the norm for Rivals and now 247.

In the scheme of things; none of this matters. It's basically a necessity to have at least top 10 classes annually to maintain competitiveness.

LSU has 9 players this year being discussed at 1st rounders potentially:
Mett - 4 star
Hurst - 3 star
Faulk - 4 star
Mingo - 4 star
Logan - 3 star
Montgomery - 4 star
Mathieu - 3 star
Simon - 4 star
Reid - 4 star

No 5 stars.
