Just looking for a base model but not sure what to get. I've always had cheap push mowers but want to get something that will last for years with minimal repair.

Looking at this Husqvarna and this John Deere.

Anyone have either of these or can recommend another brand? Reliability is what's most important to me.

My yard is average size. Takes me about an hour on the push mower to do front and back. Friend of mine has a zero turn, takes him about 15 minutes to cut it.

I got the JD D110 for my Mom this year. Got the D110 instead of the D100 just to get the "automatic" transmission for her. Limited experience ... I've only run it myself a couple of times ... but so far so good.

Look for a Used commercial grade walk behind on Craigslist . They will likely last longer than a rider. You can get a sulky so you don't have to walk and it cuts better.

Eta. Fwiw pretty Much most of the brands come out of two plants.
Look for Kawasaki engines.

the jd's at the box store are not the old JD's way different quality

It is more of a MTD mower with JD name on it

Just bought a Gravely ZTR and love it. Cut my mowing time from 90 minutes to 40 minutes.

My dad has the D110 and it is a decent mower. He had some trouble with the deck height adjusting itself, but no other problems. If you get one, ground out that stupid reverse button. It isa 10 minute fix and worth its weight in gold. I have no idea what kind of engineer designed that, but he is a flat out idiot. It kills the freaking mower when you try to go reverse with the blade spinning. You have to press the button every time you want to back up

JD D110 - first video

I would second the commercial walk-behind. Get a slightly used one with a sulky and you will be a happy camper

Get a horse. You can ride it and it self fertilizes. For small yards miniature horse. May not be able to ride it.

Both of those mowers you listed are basically the same as far as quality - they are built on the same assy lines.

That being said, I have a Husqy 46" with the Kohler motor - Hydrostatic transmission and have been very happy with it.
