Pretty simple commentary but a good list nonetheless. This is perhaps the first player ranking list that I've read, that lists Iniesta ahead of Xavi.

I've always thought Iniesta was a better player.

I think I've always thought Iniesta was better because he doesn't have a douche Jersey Shore haircut like Xavi.

Any list that ranks Strikers vs CBs vs GKs is about as random as you can get by nature.

However, I agree that the list is pretty good as far getting pictures and little write ups of most of best 40 players, even if the 1-40 rankings mean little.

I would like to a see a list of "40 players you may not know that well because they don't play for one of the superpowers but who are nipping at the heels of these players."

By the way, of course, my opinion is that Pirlo is better than Xavi but both are arguably more valuable to their respective teams than any other player on the list.

After yesterday I'm glad to see we agree on something. I've been beating that drum for a long time and thought I was the only one. I don't even think it's that close to be honest.

I love Mesut but Bastian should be ahead of him. More important player. Götze can play Özil's spot. No one can take Basti's spot. Not even being a homer.

So you had to say that just to make sure we knew, right?

I knew yall would think I was saying that because I love Schweiny but he's so underrated. He's the heart of the German squad.

Neuer at 25 is kind of a joke, he's so good

I agree but it's just back to what I was saying before. It's too random to rank players that play vastly different positions. You might as well just put the 40 names in a hat.

It's also the point I was trying to make about value to the teams:

If Oezil doesn't play Rues or Gotze are fine there. There's a ton more drop off with Schweiny out.

Even more so for Spain and Italy regarding Xavi and Pirlo because they have to change their formation/styles without them on the pitch. As good as Iniesta is, you plug Cazorla or Silva in there and you don't have to change a thing.

Balotelli being listed before Pirlo is very amusing to me. I love Ozil, but the Pig Sticker is much more important to Germany.

Would never consider taking Zlatan Ibrahimovic on my team over Bastian Schweinsteiger.

Keepers are hard to rate and he definitely did himself no favors in the CL final.

He did himself no favors by being a boss and saving a penalty and then scoring one? What was he supposed to do on Drogba's goal?
